Abstract:
The travel books of Cornelis de Bruijn, one of the most important
travelers of the Dutch Golden Age, constituted important contributions
to European scholarly knowledge about the Orient, Russia and the Far
East. In particular the many drawings in De Bruijn's travel accounts
are of high quality value and great importance. The focus in this talk
will be on De Bruijn's description in words and pictures of the
ancient palace complex of Persepolis, and the scholarly debate it
aroused.
The lecture will be given in English.

Özet:
Holanda Altın Çağı'nın en önemli gezginlerinden biri olan Cornelis de
Bruijn'in seyahat kitapları, Avrupa'nın Doğu, Rusya ve Uzakdoğu
hakkında sahip olduğu ilmi bilgilere kayda değer bir katkı
sağlamıştır. Özellikle De Bruijn'in eserlerinde yer verdiği çok
sayıdaki çizim hem oldukça yüksek bir kalite sergilemekte hem de büyük
önem taşımaktadır. Bu konuşmanın odak noktasını De Bruijn'in
Persepolis'deki antik saray kompleksini kelime ve çizimleriyle
anlatımı ile uyandırdığı bilimsel tartışmalar oluşturacaktır.
