Hey everyone!
It was great to so everyone who came out to our BBQ last weekend! We had a great time. We owe the Pirainos a very special thank you for hosting us in their beautiful (and accessible I might add) home. Thanks Katie and Jessica for showing us a good time! I'll include pictures below. Check out all the beautiful faces that showed up!
Rescheduling August 1st meeting
For our August meeting, no one has been scheduled as a guest speaker for August 1st, however the guest speaker from July volunteered to come back and try again since most people couldn't make it to July's meeting. If you're interested in this please let me know. We had a PCA coordinator and a director, both from a local PCA agency, come and speak about the excessive loss in hours and services many have been experiencing due to Medicaid and Medicaid waiver decisions.
Unfortunately I've been so preoccupied with resolving issues regarding my care and having help available as I need it, I completely spaced this Friday being the meeting. If it works for everyone else, we can meet Friday, August 8th instead this Friday.
My apologies on dropping the ball. For the past couple weeks, I've been having issues getting the help I need, since there have been several emergency health issues with my main caregiver. Furthermore, both of my backup plans for care in case of this, were also unavailable. One being out of town and the other no longer agreeing to help me, which left me stuck in either my bed or my wheelchair for a entire day (or even longer) on numerous occasions. The most recent indecent even being this week on Monday. However, I recently hired 2 more PCAs and am in the process of hiring a 3rd additional for a total of 4, so I shouldn't have any more problems with days where I'm stranded without help. Cheers, to moving forward!!! Haha. 😄
Ideas for August Social Gatherings
• Alaska State Fair
Since August is right around the corner, that also means the Alaska State Fair is here! I had an idea that this might make for a great group outing together. If enough people are interested, we can do this instead of a regular meeting. Any admission fees would be covered by the Support Group. We would just need to figure out the logistics of getting everyone there and when.
• Group BBQ/picnic
Another idea, is we could plan another BBQ. Seems planning a social event is executed with more successful during summer months anyway, as opposed to regular meetings. Haha.
Talk to you guys soon,
-J
