Hi Everyone,
I know I mentioned this to most of you at the last SCI support group, but I wanted to send out a written reminder. I am wondering if any/all of you would be willing to attend my neurorehabilitation class that I teach on Thursday, May 20 from 4:30-6:30pm. It will be in the professional studies building at UAA in the same location as our future SCI support group meetings. Rm 122B.
The purpose of this class is to educate occupational therapy students on spinal course injuries and to give them an opportunity to see what is possible after an SCI. Nathan, Jay, Mona and Wes have attended my class for the last 3 years and the response from the students have been amazing. I want them to be motivated by you and to be given an opportunity to ask questions that only you guys can answer. I am hoping to motivate them to work with clients who have a SCI or at least to feel more comfortable.
The lab will be divided into two parts. One is just and question/answer portion in which you can tell them about you, your injury, therapy you received, etc.
Part two of lab is demonstration and one-on-one time with a group of 3 students. In the past, Nathan was willing to demonstrate LB dressing in the chair, J demonstrated how he used tenodesis and a power w/c, Wes brought in his lift to see how to gets in/out of bed, Mona demonstrated transfers in/out vehicle, hand controls and LB dressing on the mat. Anything that you can show them is very, very helpful OR IF YOU just want to talk that will work.
Please let me know if you can attend… the more the merrier!!!
I’m at work right now but will be home tonight by 9:30pm if you have questions. I hope to hear back from you.
Thanks for considering!! SEE MAP BELOW---- LOOK AT #11 (the Professional Study Building is attached to the Wendy Williams Auditorium. It is the building closest to 36th and Lake Otis Blvd)
