Hello everyone!

Out of all the meetings we've had, and topics we've covered, we've never touched on the topic of depression until tonight. Turned out to be one of the best discussions we've ever had. Organic and very enlightening.

Depression is often caused by grief, over a loss of something significant. A Spinal Cord Injury can not only introduce the loss of physical function, but relationships, hobbies, even jobs can all be lost as part of sustaining a Spinal Cord Injury.

I think the topic of depression was handled beautifully, even flawlessly tonight. A very warm and special thank you to Megan W., RN, as she helped us understand not only how significant and delicate depression can be, but more importantly how one can overcome depression, accept a Spinal Cord Injury (or any situation), and continuing on to live a fulfilling life.

Also, thanks to Nathan and Matt for volunteering to bring snacks and drinks for us all last night.

Just a reminder, our annual picnic is on Sunday, August 4th. We'll be gathering at Kincaid Park again, in west Anchorage on Raspberry Rd. think of a nice dish you could share with the group, and keep the date open.., stay tuned for more details. ;)

Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a great night!

Hi Everyone,

I am so glad the topic was a hit.  I knew Megan would do great.  Thanks Nathan & Matt for bring the snacks/drinks for me.  I really appreciate it.  I look forward to our 3rd annual picnic!

Omaha is nice & hot.  I’m staying very busy with school and work but have all you in my thoughts.

See you next month….

Valerie

I would just like to share a couple pictures I have in my phone. I was cleaning out my phone and after the meeting the other night it seemed like a couple of these sayings might hit home for the group and hopefully inspire change, confidence, or fill a void that was mentioned. As J mentioned also, my phone is also always on and available….. I don’t stay up as late as him but I’ll definitely respond when I wake up. 907-250-0229.

Hey Mona!

No worries. We understand you're schedule can often keep you busy (and out-of-state, so far from us. Haha.) We look forward to seeing you at the picnic next month though! *nom, nom, nom*

Enjoy your time in Oregon/NC... Hope the weather is beautiful while you're there. ;)

Thanks a lot Nathan. These are pretty good ones too. I think I'll post them to the Spinal Cord Injury group page one Facebook. Actually, I guess that's something I could start doing from now on. I agree with Matt too. The one about your identity not being your struggle is a really good one.

Thanks a lot for sharing these...
