Hello everyone,

One of our Spinal Cord Injury group's brothers and former members has created a petition concerning issues with his care. See the petition, in the attached link in the forwarded email below. Signing the petition would support him and help enable him to continue to live at home with his family, out in the community, rather than in a nursing or care facility. 

Please take a few minutes to consider signing it. It would really make an incredible difference, and is life changing. Literally.

Hi,

I, Jesse Collens, currently live in a private residence with my elderly mother taking care of me when there are no other caregivers around. When my mother or a single nurse is taking care of me it's nearly impossible for me to leave the house; my mother cannot physically do it and the nurse is not allowed to drive me anywhere although they may accompany me if someone else is driving. if and when my mother is no longer able to take care me at all the only option for me would be to go into a skilled nursing facility where my independence and ability to live life every person is entitled to would be taken away. As a 25-year-old male I am going to college and I still have goals and aspirations as much as anyone else and I would like to see them through.

That's why I created a petition to Governor Jay Inslee.

Not to influence anyone one way or the other, but I just signed Jesse’s petition and it took less than 1 minute of my time.  It’s a great cause!

Jesse doesn't need a petition he needs to go to department of justice and file suit under the Olmsted act. A Supreme Court decision that says a person has the constitutional right to live in the community of his or her choice and the least restrictive setting.  The doj has a free helpline and website
