Good afternoon,

The updated AKPSUG State Test plugin is now available on the AKPSUG website (https://www.akpsug.org/state-reporting/state-testing). There have been updates to the following:

1. The new DRC MSU file export for the Science Test.
2. There are now options on the Student Accommodation page to add opt out reasons for students who will not be taking the test. The reason codes will export with the MSU file.
3. You can set "groups" for the DRC MSU as well (either by import, mass update, or manually entering the group on the student accommodation page). The field name is U_AKPSUG_AKTEST.SC_GROUP (also listed on the data dictionary document for the Science Test Export file).
3. There is the option to set, at the district level, to allow all accommodation fields for all students regardless of their grade level. It is an annual setting that you can toggle when you set your test administration code. If you do not set it to "Yes" the page will only show the accommodations that are available for a students' grade level as before.

Some of these changes will require you to clear your browser cache before they will work properly. You do not need to delete the current plugin, you can just update the current one (unless you didn't update the plugin since we switched from PEAKS to AKSTAR). As a reminder, the data export files will be blank if you haven't set the test administration code for the current school year.

I haven't had an opportunity to test the DRC MSU file import yet, my district doesn't have their accommodations ready at this time.

Paul,

Thanks for all you do to help districts with their state reporting. I know quite a few districts have used this for several years and they rely on it. We appreciate you!

How do you find the test administration code each year?

BTW, thank you very much for this... it is a great plugin for use.

It’s the same code each year except that the two digits representing the year increment.

Last year was: AKS0324R00
This year is: AKS0325R00

Paul, I hate to admit this but I find this entire state testing situation confusing and I am hoping you would be able to help me understand things better.

There is MAP, STAR, and the NWEA secure browser (science test right? Is this also STAR?), which all are NWEA right?

For MAP I have an auto roster set up through Clever and PowerSchool SIS which uploads nightly and so far over the last 18 months has worked perfectly.

The STAR rostering is not auto rostered, however, I am thinking that the NWEA Secure browser is the science test which I believe is auto rostered through the system I have set up to roster the MAP tests? Or, does the NWEA Secure Browser get rostered through the STAR rostering system? Is the state NWEA Secure testing browser just a section of STAR which is in itself a section of NWEA?

Thank you,

Hi Tony,

NWEA is the ELA and Math tests. Even though they are both managed by NWEA, the AKSTAR test platform is rostered independently from NWEA MAP.

DRC (Formerly PEAKS) provides the Alaska Science test which is also a separate rostering process.

The plugin will generate both the AKSTAR file (for NWEA) as well as the AK Science MSU file (for DRC).

To expand on what Paul already said since it seems like you may be looking for more info than rostering.

MAP, the NWEA State test and DRC each have their own app for testing. If you don't have a log in for DRC you may want to call them and get that sorted out if nobody in your district has access.

It sounds like you have the MAP testing secure browser already. For the State test you'll need the NWEA State Solutions app and the DRC INSIGHT Online Assessments app as well as some config files for each. DEED holds a series of webinars throughout the year for tech directors but maybe you weren't on their mailing list and missed them. If that's the case I'd reach out to kari....@alaska.gov to get added.

Hope this helps. If I recall you use macs out there, if so I can probably help you out a bit.

I have updated and pushed the DRC and State Solutions software last week to our iPads, Chromebooks, and Macbooks. My question was how do they all tie in together (which was answered) and if the NWEA State Solutions portion needs to be rostered independently as the DRC portion needed to be. Or, if the NWEA State Solutions portion is rostered along with the NWEA MAP, because our NWEA MAP is auto-rostered.

I installed the plugin and added the test administration code (AK0325R00), however, when I look for the accommodations report, I cannot find them in the system reports area. It is not in the Compliance Reports either with the roster reports.

Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Do you mean the AK Test Administration page where you set the accommodations? The roster report will contain the accommodations selected here, I'm not recalling a separate accommodations report.

Is this what you’re looking for? (Change the domain for my test server to your live server.) If so, I think Paul may have forgotten to put the link to it in the new UI.

I still don't have it on the system reports page, even at the school level.

But our system reports page is odd. It never looks like anyone else's.

We just ran a test on the DRC MSU and when we tried to upload the csv file to DRC it errored on Columns P, R, V, and Y. DRC indicated the Column Header was not correct and provided the required name for the column header. We did a copy / paste of what looked like the same Header Titles required by the DRC site into these Column Headers of the DRC_MSU.csv sheet. Not a huge issue to do but just not expected. Once we pasted the "suggested" values for each of the column we would repeat the upload process and DRC would identify an issue for another column. Once all four of these column headers were corrected DRC would accept the upload of the DRC_MSU.csv file.

Thanks

Jim

Thanks Jim,

It looks like there were a couple differences in the column names. I am working on a minor update to the plugin and should have it out soon. The updates include:

1. Fix the headers for the DRC MSU file.
2. Fix a logic issue with the Accommodations report for students Sped status. The current report is only looking for the disability code and is not checking the transfer to gen ed date.

I will work with Kyle and Robin to get the new version up in the next day or two.

An updated version of the plugin has been posted, it fixes a small display issue that may cause unexpected results in your data file.

Is it possible to add RAEL student as a reason why a student is not participating in the ELA Assessment?

Robin Gage

Short answer is no, RAEL isn’t an option specified in the AK STAR student upload guide. These are the only options available.

However, Recently Arrived English Learner (RAEL) is reported in the Participation Rate (Spring OASIS), so it will get reported that way. I am not up-to-date on the procedure that DEED wants you to follow for RAEL students and if/how you designate them as RAEL in the AK STAR system. Your District Test Coordinator or Rachel Schweissing with DEED would be a good person to check with on that.

From the Participation Rate handbook.
