I just installed the School Messenger Connect Plugin. I followed the directions exactly that were sent from the school messenger / powerschool group. I do not feel confident about it though because they did not seem to be knowledgeable and put me on hold for extended periods of time. When she got back to me she sent these directions...

Please see below.

"With the release of CommSuite v11.2.2 it is now possible to embed SchoolMessenger in PowerSchool using page fragments. The customer must be using a version of PowerSchool that supports page fragments, which should be anything from 8.0 up. We can use the old embedding method for customers running versions of PowerSchool older than 8.0.

Setup Steps

  • BEFORE YOU START: Verify the USERNAME is IDENTICAL in PowerSchool to what we have in School Messenger. If it is not then that is the issue.
  • Find the appropriate customer within ASP Manager and click the wrench icon (Advanced Actions).
  • Click "Authentication Providers" and enter the customer's FQDN (fully qualified domain name).
  • Go back to Advanced Actions.
  • Click the "PowerSchool Tools" link.
  • See Plugin Options below to determine which plugin options to select. Choose the plug-in version and click the Download button.
  • A .zip file will be saved to your computer.
  • Have the customer login to their PowerSchool environment and go to Setup > System > System Settings > Plugin Management Configuration
  • If they have an older version of the SchoolMessenger plugin already installed, it must be Deleted before proceeding.
  • Click the Install button and browse to the .zip file (Do not unzip the file) that was downloaded to your computer.
  • You'll see a Plugin Registration dialog box. Click Register so the plugin can register back to SchoolMessenger.
  • Select the check box under the Enable/Disable column next to the SchoolMessenger plugin. You'll see an "Enable Plugin" dialog box and click Yes.
  • Perform a test to make sure authentication works as expected. Be sure to test the SchoolMessenger link under Applications and the Message Sender link under Functions.

Plugin Options:

  • Admin and Teacher with Parent Portal - Both Admins and Teachers in PowerSchool can use the MessageSender and SchoolMessenger links, and the SchoolMessenger option will be added to the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
  • Admin and Teacher without Parent Portal - Both Admins and Teachers in PowerSchool can use the MessageSender and SchoolMessenger links, but the SchoolMessenger option will not be added to the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
  • Admin Only with Parent Portal - Only Admins in PowerSchool will have the MessageSender and SchoolMessenger links, and the SchoolMessenger option will be added to the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
  • Admin Only without Parent Portal - Only Admins in PowerSchool will have the MessageSender and SchoolMessenger links, but the SchoolMessenger option will not be added to the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

**Make sure you are also selecting the correct option for Parent Portal if the customer requests this feature.  Guardian Login means the customer is using the Guardian Data Model for their contacts.  Basic Login means the customer is using flat data.  If you have any questions about which to select, please ask."...

After following the directions I tried using it by going to applications - Message sender and it just displayed a blank page with a heading of "Message Sender"

I then tried Applications - School Messenger and received this

Does anyone else have a solution for this? I am going to call back but I am not confident about the outcome.

Do you have a login directly to school messenger that you can use to check usernames and make sure they're identical to Powerschool?

Thank you Chad, that was it. The secretaries were able to but I wasn't because their logins were the same but mine was listed in messenger as Technology Director. Excellent, thank you
