Canvas and PowerSchool via SIF ?

Good Afternoon,
Hope all are well and warm!
I am writing today to ask if anyone else has any information about the PowerSchool / Canvas interface and best practices?
Currently we are experiencing some problems (perhaps 4 or 5 known issues at present) with Canvas not updating some changes for some Students (ie. individual Student email, grades, etc) and even not recognizing new Courses/Sections added in PS. That said, it seems that overall the the interface is working well. 
In particular, JSD is using PowerSchool version 12.4.1 (we have historically been slow to upgrade), and of course we are linked via ZIS with Canvas. 
PS Tech Support has told our IT that our Canvas update problem is caused by our not being on newest PS version. "Upgrade to newest PS version will fix PowerSchool - Canvas problems."
So, any information or guidance from your experience that you would be willing to share, will be most welcome and appreciated.
Also, just want to say that I do not often write on this forum but I do very often read this forum and I have appreciated the group being there many times in the past years...

Unfortunately not much help for your situation, but I can share our experience on a hosted current version of PowerSchool. I put in a ticket for them to add the Kimono SIF Agent and at first it only synced the students and teachers, no courses, it took PS support a month to resolve the issue. Not sure it will help since our versions are different but the agent that resolved our issue was Dylan Flippin and if it helps support to reference another customer's case number, ours was #05176951. The issue is somewhat similar so who knows.

A sidenote on integrations that may save you some time is if you use Savvas Realize formerly Pearson, they are in the process of developing an LTI for Canvas expected to be released in January.

I’m afraid I also can’t help - and the best resource I could have pointed you to (Chasina Worman from Ketchikan) now works Infrastructure in New Hampshire.

I would like to point out that if you use PowerSchool State Reporting, the minimum required version is 19.4.3.0 since Sept. 2nd, 2020. (I half expect that you roll your own reports, so this is primarily for some of the other districts out there who may be a bit behind.)

We are typically late adopters, but we are on version 20.4.5 and I think we’re fairly stable now. I will say that I am unhappy with PS’s quality control and our previous version of 20.4 had some bugs…

 

With this version of PS and our SIF agent running things in Canvas seem to be in sync.

 

All of our issues seem to stem from Canvas not interpreting our data in PS correctly. It is frustrating when Canvas has an issue with something that is accurate and correct in PS. Canvas needs to read our data correctly and learn the rules of PS for it to be a competitive product. If they can’t play well with PS then their days are numbered.

Thanks to all for your comments and observations.
No doubt all very helpful! We do host our own version but our IT (not my dept!) uses the PS EMS service for upgrades and monitoring and all.
Certainly the current situation has introduced many complications, and very similar complications, for all of us. I will pass some of the comments along to our Administrative team as they look at the issue.

or some may ask me...
So, PS version beyond 19.? do not allow autosends/autocomms? or is it just FTP? We have many autosends.
Do we just ask the vendors to provide plug ins? Obviously they have. ?

I’m not aware of any reduction in AutoSend/AutoComm functionality.
