AK PSUGers,

I hope your enrollments are above your projections and all your positions are filled. Sorry for the long email, but I promise it has useful information and make sure to see my note about FERPA and ASTE at the end.

The Fall OASIS is coming up soon and there is a DEED webinar at 10am today to discuss it. You’ll notice that we have two new points of contact at DEED working on this report now. Jared Delara is replacing Mindy Lobaugh, and Brendan Verbrugge oversees the data collection.

If you are on the latest State Reporting version (23.10.1.something) you will notice that teacher ATI number is reported for students outside of grades K-3. This is an error that PowerSchool is aware of, but will probably not be fixed until after you submit the report. Luckily, the fix is easy enough: filter for students outside of grades K-3 and delete the teacher ATI number before submitting your report in SRM.

Even if you leave the ATI field blank on the State/Province page, the report will fill it in as long as the student has a teacher with an ATI number in the system. It looks like the report looks at the students’ teachers and which teacher they have the most classes with and reports that ATI number. You can let the report do it’s thing, but I would suggest setting student ATI numbers by hand (or import) based on student schedules.

Brandon or Kyle, feel free to elaborate if you have any more information on how the report logic was set up to populate ATI numbers.

You can manually set the ATI number for a student on the State/Province page, but the teacher must have an ATI number entered to be an available option. Enter the NAME of the teacher in this field, the report will pull their ATI number.

A couple of other things of note…

The issue with the Health page not calculating MMR vaccine compliance correctly should be fixed in the next release. I’m not sure when that is, but I’m told it will be this month.

Looking ahead to February and ASTE. Unfortunately, we won’t have Kyle Schneider attending this year, but PowerSchool corporate may still have a presence. I’ve also been working with ASTE and the US Dept. of Ed’s Student Privacy Policy Office to get some in-person FERPA training at ASTE this year. They are coming and plan on doing several sessions. This is a great opportunity to get some resources and information for your district staff, who probably have misconceptions about FERPA.
