Immunization compliance is done in PowerSchool by rules that are applied to vaccines. There may be an issue with the new Polio rule not being available when it should be.

If you have a few minutes to check your vaccine rules, it will help us determine whether PowerSchool updated the Polio rule or not. Please note what version of PowerSchool you are on and what version of state reporting you have, then please read on and let me know what rule your Polio vaccine is bound to.

In the old UI, go to District Setup and then go to ‘Health Setup’

Then select ‘Vaccines’ under the Immunizations tab.

From here you’ll see the vaccine list, hopefully yours looks similar to mine. I may have some slight name changes to make mine easier for us to use. Select the Polio vaccine.

This will open the vaccine settings, at the bottom of the page it will tell you which rule is bound to the vaccine. The rule that was bound to my Polio vaccine is called ‘Polio – CDC’, which I have learned is not the correct rule. I was told there should be a rule called ‘Polio’, but when I unbind the ‘Polio – CDC’ rule I do not see a ‘Polio’ rule.

What rule do you see bound to your Polio vaccine? That and your version of PS and State reporting will help determine whether I am just out of date or whether something else is causing this. Thank you!

If you unbind a rule to change it, it will make everyone compliant for that vaccine until the rules engine recalculates compliance overnight.

Hi Robin - operating on EUI, here are my server details...

Screenshot 2024-04-01 at 09.16.13.png

Odd, I am showing two entries for Polio
Screenshot 2024-04-01 at 09.22.17.png
one is unbound, (and "Polio - CDC" is an available rule)
Screenshot 2024-04-01 at 09.25.01.png

the other is bound to the "IPV" rule.

It’s important to note that an immunization rule can only be bound to one immunization. If you’re not seeing an entry in the rules engine, it’s very likely that it is already bound to an existing rule.

You can see this in Jim’s screenshot where his Polio vaccine is bound to the IPV rule. (Which I believe is the correct rule, however the state reporting documentation does not spell out what immunizations should be bound to each vaccination. However, the list of immunizations and the rules bound to them is part of state reporting and not included as part of the setup that needs to be completed. Unless you’ve changed it, it should be setup correctly.)

I forgot that IPV was Polio 😬

Perhaps the IPV rule is the correct rule, but in talking with our state reporting contact at PowerSchool, she thought the rule was supposed to be called ‘Polio’.

I’ll update my case with PS support and see if the IPV rule is the correct one. Thanks for checking!

I wasn’t sure about the name either, but I haven’t messed with it, and all my Polio errors cleared up one day after a state reporting release…

It would be really helpful if the actual configuration values were in the documentation.

I was misinformed about the name of the new Polio rule. As Jim and Jared have shared, ‘IPV’ is the name of the rule that you should have attached to your Polio vaccine.

This new ‘IPV’ rule, as I understand it, is the result of a support ticket created because the existing rule did not calculate Polio compliance correctly. If you find any issues with how a vaccine rule is working, it is a state reporting issue and you’ll want to open a ticket and it would help to let me know what issue you find so we can track it with PowerSchool.

Sorry for any confusion, the 😈 is in the details.

This is what my Polio vaccine looks like, I just realized that I have no idea what CVX codes are and how they are used on this page.

Bound to IPV Rule

Where do you go in the new UI to update the compliance rules?

I believe the CVX codes are the combinations the vaccines are mixed together and I would assume that section would be used by the school nurse administering the vaccine if it was done at the school.

In the new UI I use the search box a lot.

Regarding CVX codes, the response from PS support was:

Hi Robin,

I wanted to reach out to let you know after digging into this further. I did find out the the CVX designations do not help. My apologies.
I also spoke with one of the state reporting experts for AK to fix the CDC rules I do need to send this up to them. The rules were initially released in December. Since you are not seeing them, there is a bigger issue. I am sending this to them right away.

Again, sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

The new search bar is pretty great but in case you still wanted to know how to get to it, from District -> District Management -> Health -> Vaccines.
