We are looking in to getting an SSL Certificate for PowerSchool.  We are looking at doing this for a few reasons, 1. FEBPA, HIPA compliance (we are applying for a health grant that asked for our SIS security) 2. The SchoolMessenger plugin requires an SSL to work.

Has anyone has any experience with this? Any word of wisdom or who we should get a certificate through.  Also, I have looked into Pearson installing the SSL (that I buy) and I was quoted $500.  This seemed like a lot??

Thanks!

Good Afternoon, We have had an ssl for some time and it seems to work fine. I do not know much about setting it up as our IT Dept. did that - our certificate is from GoDaddy and I do know that they got some help with set up from Pearson Support. Let me know if there is anything specific you want to know and I will see what I can do to find out. BTW, the SchoolMessenger plug-in works well and is kind of cool.
Thanks and take care,

Jay,
Thanks for the reply.  We are looking at Go Daddy for our SSL Certificate so I am glade to hear it is working for you.  This does help! I also can't wait for the SchoolMessenger plug in!

Thanks,
Chasina

Just an update. If you have the EMS service with PowerSchool, installing an SSL certificate is included in this service.

Sorry I didn't email about this earlier, but I went ahead and installed an SSL certificate on our production server last week.  It was a relatively painless experience (see: https://powersource.pearsonschoolsystems.com/article/63525?from=search ) except that the vendor, Network Solutions, didn't like the CSR that the PowerSchool installer generated.  I ended up having to create my own CSR via the command line.

After that, the import and enabling process was relatively easy.

I just finished ours about 5 min ago, it was not too bad at all. I did however, have a PS tech on the phone with me. They were wonderful and generating the certificate and installation didn't take more than 30 min. Kyle thanks for the documentation!

Also I forgot to say that we used Go Daddy for the SSL certificate, and there was not a problem with the PowerSchool generated CSR.
