The position will be a subject matter expert within the law enforcement domain who has a strong background in designing and implementing enterprise-wide applications related to law enforcement data collection and visualization. While leading the deployment and continued growth of the Tableau environment, the position will create and maintain visualizations for agency and public consumption, lead others within the agency to create dashboards within their area of responsibility, develop standards and best practices to follow, and develop a training plan for continuous adoption of data-driven policing. The individual will be responsible for administering content and user access as well as upgrades and configurations of the Tableau Server environment as needed. This architect position will also play a role in designing the applications in which data is collected for law enforcement purposes. As a subject matter expert in designing and implementing law enforcement data collection systems, the individual will have a strong background in law enforcement systems and data collection related to criminal justice information. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Support the continued deployment of Tableau dashboards within the agency
    • Consult and make recommendations on system architecture, design, and implementation ensuring data collection applications are meeting the needs for business intelligence tools to consume the data in an actionable way
    • Lead Tableau governance of certified content (data source and workbook) best practices, and content design
    • Review and approve any visualization developed for internal or external use
    • Implement Tableau Blueprint to evolve the agency into using a data-driven approach to decisions
    • Ensure data is made available to the public through visualizations when necessary
    • Deliver centralized operation to the Tableau development community, focusing on user management, content lifecycle management, publishing content, onboarding new members, and auditing
    • Meet with key stakeholders to understand the agency's needs
    • Improve existing visualizations within MSP through requested enhancements
    • Maintain server software with the latest patches and updates
    • Act as a subject matter expert for the development team for improvements to existing systems to meet the data collection needs of the state law enforcement community
    • Continue to update and improve end-user documentation as needed
    • Regularly assess and improve performance in such areas as job knowledge, technical skills, quality, innovation, and working relationships
