Is there a way to add registered users in the standalone version other than modifying users.php?
Is it correct that the script will use PHPBB's users list if it is integrated into PHPBB?

Hi.
No, sorry to say there is no "built-in" way to add users. But there is modifications like:

And yes, you could integrate it to different forums to use the forums user database for the chat. Downloads here:

A better standalone version with real user management panels is coming... sometime... in the future...
For now your only option is a user mod or an integration version.
