Job Title: 5G Access Network Workload Migration Engineer

Location: Denver, CO Hybrid
Experience Level: Mid to Senior-level
Reports to: Project Manager – Network Infrastructure Migration


Job Overview

We are seeking skilled engineers to lead the migration of our 5G Access Network workload from VMware to Wind River CaaS (Cloud as a Service) platform. This role involves in-depth technical expertise in 5G network architectures, virtualization technologies, and containerized solutions. The successful candidates will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless migration while maintaining service performance, reliability, and security.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Migration Planning:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive migration strategy for transitioning workloads from VMware to Wind River CaaS.
    • Assess current VMware infrastructure and identify dependencies, constraints, and optimization opportunities.
  2. Implementation:
    • Set up, configure, and validate Wind River CaaS environments for the 5G Access Network.
    • Migrate workloads, including VNFs (Virtual Network Functions) and CNFs (Cloud-Native Network Functions).
    • Ensure compatibility and performance tuning during the migration process.
  3. Testing and Validation:
    • Conduct rigorous functional and performance testing of workloads post-migration.
    • Resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  4. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with network engineers, cloud architects, and the operations team to align migration activities with business objectives.
    • Collaborate with vendors (Wind River) for troubleshooting and advanced feature enablement.
  5. Documentation and Support:
    • Create detailed technical documentation, including migration plans, configurations, and lessons learned.
    • Provide post-migration support to ensure operational stability.

Required Qualifications

  1. Technical Expertise:
    • Hands-on experience with VMware virtualization technologies, including vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi.
    • Strong knowledge of Wind River Studio and Wind River CaaS Platform.
    • Familiarity with 5G Access Network components and architectures (CU, DU, RU).
    • Proficiency in containerization technologies, including Kubernetes and Docker.
  2. Skills and Tools:
    • Expertise in migrating workloads from virtualized to containerized environments.
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
    • Knowledge of networking protocols and standards used in 5G.
  3. Educational Background:
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
    • Relevant certifications (e.g., VMware VCP, Kubernetes CKA, or Wind River-specific training) are a plus.
  4. Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
    • Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to dynamic project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in telecom network transformation projects.
  • Familiarity with Open RAN concepts and technologies.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Wind River Studio Analytics and Cloud Platform services.
