Mainframe Network Programmer

We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Network Programmer to design, develop, and support network-related applications and systems on IBM mainframe environments. The role requires strong expertise in mainframe programming languages, telecommunications protocols, and network management tools to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performing connectivity across enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities
• Design & Development
• Develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe network programs using COBOL, Assembler, PL/I, REXX, or CLIST.
• Create and optimize communication protocols (SNA, TCP/IP, VTAM, NCP) for efficient data transfer.
• Implement APIs, exits, and utilities for integrating network functions with mainframe applications.
• Network Configuration & Support
• Configure and maintain VTAM definitions, TCP/IP stacks, and network subsystems.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve mainframe network connectivity issues.
• Support integration of mainframe with distributed platforms, middleware, and cloud environments.
• Performance & Security
• Analyze network performance, tune configurations, and ensure optimal throughput.
• Develop monitoring tools and scripts for network diagnostics and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards, encryption protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaboration & Documentation
• Partner with system programmers, network engineers, and application teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Provide technical guidance during project implementations, migrations, and upgrades.
• Document network designs, configuration standards, and program logic.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• 8+ years of experience in IBM mainframe programming with focus on network and communications subsystems.
• Proficiency in programming languages: COBOL, Assembler, PL/I, REXX, CLIST.
• Strong knowledge of VTAM, TCP/IP, NCP, SNA, and related protocols.
• Experience with z/OS, TSO/ISPF, JCL, SMP/E and related system utilities.
• Familiarity with network monitoring and debugging tools (e.g., NetView, Wireshark, OMEGAMON).
