You might think of Product Hunt as just a part of your launch strategy, but I see it as a long-term SEO play too.
Some years ago, they started programmatically generating "alternative" pages with the profiles of startups that have launched on their platform.
And they started ranking well. Really well.
They even have featured snippets.
I noticed this when I was researching the search results of a keyword that we wanted to rank SavvyCal for.
I pulled up the Product Hunt page they generated for Calendly and noticed that SavvyCal was listed as a top alternative. π
There's something interesting about it too. You can suggest an alternative.
This serves two functions:
- Add your own startup to the alternative pages of competitors
- Move your startup up the ranks of competitor comparison pages by getting more suggestions for your startup as an alternative
These pages get hundreds of thousands of visitors from organic searches.
While you still want to publish your own competitor comparison pages, you also want to make sure your startup is listed in other "roundups" like the ones Product Hunt generates.
It's especially useful early on when you may not be able to quickly rank your own page. Instead, you can still reap the benefits of SEO by piggybacking off of Product Hunt.
