Subject: Information Portal; the greatness of Indian science and the great Indian disaster "Raja Ram Mohan Roy"
Teenagers of Indian origin won top honor’s in Intel science fair and there was a girl who invented the 20 second charger
Why does an NRI does that and why cant an Indian who had his/her education in this great land can do one such. The sad truth we Indians haven’t contributed much to the scientific society for quite a long time. We may be the pioneers of science and body arts but the world has overtook us by a mile.
The typical Indian mindset is to wait for someone to invent something and “lower” their standards to match the Indian desires.
In the next few editions of Information portal I’d like to discuss how the dream of Raja Ram Mohan Roy collapsed into the wall of filth with stuck in the subway basements.
Lets see one of the greatness of Indian Science and Inventions. * This happened before Ram Mohan Roy tried to reform the Indian society.
Tipu Sulthan’s Flier.
During the course of the second mysore war (around 1780) , Tipu Sulthan deployed a few new age rockets against the British east Indian company forces. These rockets were fitted with swords and used iron tubes for holding the propellant which enabled it to travel long distance. Tough Europe had rockets this one is of much higher technology.
Colonel William Baillie's ammunition stores are thought to have been detonated by a hit from one of Hyder Ali's rockets, contributing to a
humiliating British defeat.
The areas of town where rockets and fireworks were manufactured were known as Taramandal Pet ("Galaxy Market"). Tipu Sultan wrote a military manual called Fathul Mujahidin in which 200 rocket men were assigned to each Mysorean "cushoon" (brigade). Mysore had 16 to 24 cushoons of infantry. The rocket men were trained to launch their rockets at an angle calculated from the diameter of the cylinder and the distance to the target. In addition, wheeled rocket launchers capable of launching five to ten rockets almost simultaneously were used in war. Rockets could be of various sizes, but usually consisted of a tube of soft hammered iron about 8 inches (20 cm) long and 1.5 to 3 in (3.8 to 7.6 cm) in diameter, closed at one end and strapped to a shaft of bamboo about 4 ft (1 m) long. The iron tube acted as a combustion chamber and contained well-packed black powder propellant. A rocket carrying about one pound of powder could travel almost 1,000 yards. In contrast, rockets in Europe, not being iron cased, could not take large chamber pressures and as a consequence, were not capable of reaching distances anywhere near as great.
The entire road alongside Jumma Masjid near City Market and Taramandalpet, Bangalore was the hub of Tipu's rocket project where he had set up a laboratory
