Subject: The Constitution Is My Home – Launch Event Today | Watch Live

Dear reader,

The Constitution is many things to many people. For our co-founder, senior advocate Ms. Indira Jaising, who has spent over five decades fighting some of the most consequential legal battles this country has seen, it is something most of us rarely think to call it – a home.

“I may not have been one of the founding mothers of the Constitution, but I am one of its founding daughters. Founding a nation is a continuous process, one without end. This is where I have lived, loved and worked—and that is where home is. The Constitution of India is not just a text ... [It] is where my home lies,” writes Indira Jaising in her new book ‘The Constitution Is My Home.’

In conversation with Ritu Menon, Jaising reflects on the cases and causes that have defined her career: Mary Roy and the fight for equal inheritance; Rupan Deol Bajaj and the pursuit of justice in the face of sexual harassment; Olga Tellis, which recognized the right to livelihood for pavement dwellers; Shayara Bano and the challenge to triple talaq; the survivors of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, whose fight she has never abandoned. And Sabarimala, where she argued for every woman's right to worship.

The book is now available online and in bookstores. Join us today, May 21, at the India International Centre in New Delhi, for the official launch event. The evening begins at 6:00 PM with a conversation featuring senior journalist Sreenivasan Jain, followed by keynote addresses by Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.

Dear Indira,

Congratulations on the book. I am really excited to read this book. I hope you plan on a discussion on this book in Mumbai too.

Wishing you all the best for its success.

Best regards,
Hasina
