VeRoLog Conference 2025 – Trento, June 16-19, 2025
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Trento is pleased to warmly invite researchers at any stage of their career as well practitioners from industries to contribute submitting an abstract to the 9th meeting of the EURO working group on Vehicle Routing and Logistics optimization (VeRoLog) organized in Trento (Italy) on 16-19 June 2025.

This distinguished event goal is to provide a platform to present and discuss the latest and most relevant advances concerning vehicle routing optimization and its relationship with logistics, in an environment distinguished by fast, unexpected and prominent scenario variations.

The submission should include a title, an abstract (maximum 300 words), the names of the authors (including the presenting one), and their affiliations. Each participant can present only one contribution during the event. The submission should also indicate the relevant contents from, but not limited to, the following categories:

Models and problems: VRPs variants, Dynamic VRPs, Freight transportation and distribution, Parcel delivery, Attended delivery, VRPs with unmanned vehicles, Vehicle and ride sharing, Dial a ride, Workforce Routing and Scheduling, Electric vehicles, Integrated VRPs, VRPs with network driver or request specificities.

Topics and applications: E-commerce logistics, Healthcare transportation, City logistics, Green and environmental aspects, Fairness and social sustainability, Autonomous driving problems, Internet of Things and sensor-based applications, Mobility as a service, Reverse logistics and circularity, Intralogistics and industrial applications

Methodologies and approaches: Integer and linear programming, Column Generation, Exact solution methods, Meta and hyper heuristics, Machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, Big data and analytics.

For the first time in VeRoLog history roundtables will be organized to enhance and foster the discussion and debate among peers concerning the hottest topics and trends in VRP research, chaired by distinguished experts.

Submission deadline: February 15th, 2025 – NEW DEADLINE

Additional information and submission guidelines can be found on the conference webpage:

1st VeRoLog PhD School
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a side event of the 9th meeting of the EURO Working Group on Vehicle Routing and Logistics Optimization, VeRoLog has the pleasure to organize the 1st VeRoLog PhD School. The goal of the PhD school to provide PhD students and post-docs interested in applying and developing operations research and mathematical optimization techniques to solve decision-making problems arising in different applications (such as vehicle routing, logistics, supply chain management, transportation, etc) with the basics of some key methodologies.

The speakers of the school and the topics they will cover are:

- Matteo Fischetti, Università degli Studi di Padova
“Benders, Bilevel and Bilinear Optimization”

- Francesca Maggioni, Università degli Studi di Bergamo
“Solution Methods for Optimization Problems under Uncertainty in Logistics and Transportation”

- Stefan Røpke, Danmarks Tekniske Universitet
“Solving Vehicle Routing Problems using Dantzig-Wolfe Decomposition and Column Generation”

- Sophie Parragh, Johannes Kepler Universität Linz
“Multi-Objective Combinatorial Optimization: Generic Exact Methods and Applications in Vehicle Routing”

There will also be an informal roundtable where Ola Jabali (Professor in Operations Research at Politecnico di Milano), Karen Smilowitz (Professor Industrial Engineering and Management Science at Northwestern University), Daniele Vigo (Professor in Operations Research at Università di Bologna) will address questions, such as, how can I identify a promising research topic? What makes a paper outstanding? What is a good writing process behind a paper? When is research groundbreaking and when is it incremental? How can my research have an impact in the real-world? The participants will also have the chance to ask questions and receive advices about their current and future research activities.

To fully benefit from the school, the participants are supposed to have some background in mixed-integer linear programming. The participants are not supposed to work on vehicle routing or logistics applications.

To submit your application for the PhD school, please fill out the following form:

https://forms.gle/eQ5Emx9jBhPzeuhc8

The number of participants is limited to 100.

The accepted applicants will have to officially register and pay the school’s registration fee using the VeRoLog conference website: https://verolog2025.unitn.it/

There will not be any final exam, so no credits will be awarded to the attendees. However, a certificate of attendance will be given.

Important Dates:

Application Deadline: February 28, 2025 (using google form)

Registration and Payment Deadline: March 31, 2025 (using conference website, payment will open in 2025)

School Schedule:
Friday, June 13, 2025 (9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.)
Saturday, June 14, 2025 (9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)
Monday, June 16, 2025 (9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

Venue:
Room A 205 – Povo 1 Building
Department of Industrial Engineering, Università di Trento
Via Sommarive, 5, 38123 Trento (TN), Italy

Registration cost: €120

All information about the PhD school will be available soon at https://verolog2025.unitn.it/.

Expression of interests for organizing TRISTAN XIII
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Steering Committee of TRISTAN, the Triennial Symposium on Transportation Analysis series of international conferences, seeks Expressions of Interests for organizing TRISTAN XIII to be held in June of 2028.

TRISTAN provides a high-quality forum for the presentation of innovative and thought-provoking models, methodologies, and applications in Transportation Science, mainly Operations Research-oriented (including analytics, learning, AI, and simulation). The scope is wide, covering both people and freight transportation and logistics, by all modes, at all geographical extensions, and at all levels of planning, analysis, and operations.

The TRISTAN conferences gather top research scientists from universities and research institutes from all over the world along with scientific participants from the private sectors and public agencies, as well as graduate students. They provide an agora for high-spirited and broad exchanges of ideas, reflections, and discussions on the topics and areas of interest, aiming to foster scientific and social networking and international cooperation.

Extensive information on TRISTAN and the past conferences may be found at https://tristanconference.org/

A TRISTAN conference is to be organized by a group of people acknowledged within the community. With respect to location, this also translates into a desire to be inclusive and move the conference around the world where there are important or emerging groups of researchers in Transportation Science. Given the Pacific and Indian oceans locations of the last conferences - Australia, Mauritius, and Japan - proposals from locations around the Atlantic ocean are strongly encouraged.

The proposals will be presented to all participants to TRISTAN XII, which will take place June 22- 28 2025, on the island of Okinawa, Japan. The final selection will then be made by the conference participants who will vote during the social dinner on Thursday evening.

All demands for additional information and the expressions of interest to organize the

2028 TRISTAN should be set to us at tristans...@gmail.com
