Hi, I got the new DJI FPV drone and did some test flights today.  I found the site to upload .DAT file flight logs.  However, two of my flight logs were over 900MB (982,432KB and 929,667KB).  The max size for the .DAT flight logs uploads is only 800MB.  Can you increase the file upload so I can upload all my flight logs, say to 1.0GB or maybe 1.5GB?

Thanks

Tom

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m happy to help.

We are unable to support the DJI FPV DAT file, which is the log stored on the aircraft, as it is encrypted.

That said, we do support the TXT files that are stored on the phone/tablet you are using to fly the aircraft.

We support automatic flight log upload for both iOS and Android for these TXT records.

Android:

Our recommended method of automatically uploading DJI Fly flight logs when using an Android device is with our AirData mobile app.

AirData is able to automatically retrieve flight logs from your Android device.

Here is a video that provides step-by-step instructions for downloading our AirData Android app and setting up the sync parameters: https://app.airdata.com/wiki/HowTo/Uploading+Flight+Logs+with+Airdata’s+Android+App

iOS:

When using an iOS device (iPhone or iPad) with a DJI flight app (GO 4, Pilot, Fly), AirData is able to automatically retrieve your flight logs by way of Direct DJI Sync.

With Direct DJI Sync, the flight logs that are stored on your iOS device are sent to DJI's servers. AirData can then retrieve your flight logs and display them on your AirData dashboard. Please ensure that "Auto-sync Flight Records" is enabled in the Fly app. To enable Direct DJI Sync, please add your DJI credentials to this page: https://app.airdata.com/main?a=account&apage_id=DJI_Login

I hope this helps!

Best regards,
Trevor

Actually, you DO support the DJI FPV DAT files, the ones that were smaller than 800MB uploaded and went right into my flight records.  If you look at my account, you’ll see several flights (though short) of the FPV where you got lots of data.

So, indeed, via this page, you already ARE supporting DAT file uploads, and again, they worked fine:

DAT flight log upload instructions (airdata.com)

https://app.airdata.com/main?a=upload

And here’s a sample of a DJI FPV DAT file upload:

BTW, the times were off, this was in the afternoon (3 or 4) but I didn’t have the County code set correctly for the first few flights.

Those were DAT files, not TXT files.  I don’t think the FPV produces TXT files, btw, but I haven’t extensively looked for them in the file system on the drone.

So can you just lift the restrictions on the size so I can upload the larger files, I should be all set!

Thanks….Tom

PS:  It would be great if these auto-uploaded, but as the DJI Fly app with the FPV only mirrors the same view as the googles (minus the flight information), with no other flight data display on the Smartphone, I suspect that DJI doesn’t upload the flight logs via the Fly app.  But again (perhaps it just in beta as the upload does say beta), the uploads of DJI FPV DAT files seem to work now, which is really  nice!

So again, can we get the web site changed so we can upload larger DAT files, say up to 1.5 – 2.0 GB?  They DO work now for 800MB or smaller.

Again, I give you full permission to take a look at the logs in my account if you’d like to check them out. All the flight from March 13th are the DJI FPV.

Thanks again….Tom

PS:  Airdata is a GREAT service, thanks.  I wish I’D had the foresight to have created such a business, great job in general!

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the follow-up message, and I'm happy to clear up any confusion about the file types.

The flights that you highlighted in the screenshot are actually TXT files. You can confirm this by selecting one of the flights and clicking on "Original" beneath the display map. The downloaded file will look similar to this: 2021-03-13_[07-38-22].txt

It looks as though you uploaded these flights through Direct DJI Sync. To expand on my previous message - with Direct DJI Sync, the DJI flight app (Fly, GO 4, etc.) creates a TXT record and stores it on your phone/tablet. The TXT records are sent from your phone/tablet to DJI's servers, which is where AirData retrieves them from.

I'm thinking that the TXT records were automatically uploaded to your account (through the process we refer to as Direct DJI Sync) around the same time you attempted to upload the DAT files, which may have lead to confusion about the file type of the logs you see on your account.

I hope this helps to provide clarity, and the AirData team appreciates the kind words!

Best regards,
Trevor

Hi Tom,

I wanted to send a follow-up message about uploading your DJI FPV flight logs to AirData. We have discovered that the TXT files are actually created by the Goggles V2. Please see the instructions below for uploading those logs to AirData:

To upload your DJI FPV drone flight logs, you will first need to transfer the logs from the Goggles V2 to your phone/tablet. Once the logs are on your device, they can be automatically uploaded to AirData.

Here are instructions for transferring the logs from the Goggles to your phone/tablet:
  1. Ensure that you are using version 1.3.0 or later of the Fly app.
  2. After flying, connect your Goggles to your phone/tablet and open DJI Fly. Head to "Profile" -> "More", and you will see a status bar at the top of the "Flight Data Center" page that displays the synchronization status.

    image.png

  3. You will see a message at the top, letting you know when the synchronization is complete. Note that you can see the synced flights in the flight list on this "Flight Data Center" page.
Now that the flights are transferred from your Goggles to your phone/tablet, proceed to upload them to AirData:

Android users:

Our recommended method of automatically uploading flight logs from DJI Fly when using an Android device is with our AirData Android mobile app - which can upload the logs directly to your AirData account. App download instructions found here: https://app.airdata.com/app

iOS users:

Due to Apple's "sandbox" environment, AirData can not retrieve DJI Fly logs directly from your device. Instead, you will need to sync your logs with DJI's servers, which is where AirData can automatically retrieve them from.

To sync your logs with DJI's servers, enable "Auto-sync Flight Records" in the settings section of DJI Fly.

To allow AirData to retrieve your DJI logs, please enter your DJI credentials on this page: https://app.airdata.com/main?a=account&apage_id=DJI_Login

I hope this helps, and please let us know if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Trevor
