Queststion from a Superset Newbie

Good morning,

I'm in the process of evaluating Superset as a visualization tool for our organization.  I have a small amount of Tableau experience and I'm looking to see if we can duplicate the work we've done in Tableau (especially the maps) in Superset.  I would be interested in hearing from other users on:

1.  How you got up to speed on the Superset, the Airbnb documentation seems very sparse.
2.  Is it possible to set use maps on a closed system without access to Mapbox?

1. At Airbnb we have internal training material that uses our internal data sources, so that the users can relate and learn about our internal metrics and dimension while learning Superset. That in part explains the insufficient training material on the open source side. Someone in the community recently put this training video online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kIZSuO4xjs

2. Note that the current implementation does not send any of your data to MapBox, the data is render by the client, on top of the MapBox tiles/background. Otherwise we have a non-mapbox world map and a set of country maps with their regions that will make the next release.

Hi Blair,

I was in a similar situation few months ago.

The airbnb documentation is sparse.  But I have made myself familiar with most of the Superset features in past 2 months.

I have very recently trained a team on Superset usage. Initial reactions have been great.

How I did it?

• I did it the hard way by looking at examples in superset, experimenting with superset and searching youtube for videos.
  
• I have googled again and again for issues that I am facing. 
  
• And I have also read up a lot of open and closed issues in superset's github.
  
• I did not subscribe to this google group until recently. Stupid me!

(@max, @community) Two things I still don't understand is User Management and JINJA SQL.

Independent material like blog posts and training videos are also very welcomed and we'll be happy linking out to those resources. 

This can really help the growth of the project and helps the core dev team to focus on growing the product.
