The citizens of the US are growing more and more aware of the
environmental impact we have on our states, country , and the world.
The US government has created agencies that inform citizens whether or
not there new appliances meet the requirements of Energy Star or other
programs that grade the energy efficiency of appliances.

Energy Star in particular is a joint effort between the United States
Environmental Protection Agency and the United States Department of
Energy. The purpose of the joint program between these two agencies is
to "protect the environment through energy efficient products and
practices."
