Greetings.
If you are interested in AI and in or near Auckland, New Zealand on 8
December 2009, please consider attending (or at least registering to
attend, so we can collect your contact details) the first meeting of
a new AI Specialist Group under the umbrella of the NZ Computer
Society (Note: non-members are welcome):

I'm a new PhD student at AUT studying open source software development
in Python. My target project is a voice-and-vision enabled chatterbot,
towards which goal I have posted a couple of short proof of concept
videos:
http://bit.ly/JohnGravesPythonNoHands (show creation of a Hello World
demo.py without using the mouse or keyboard)
http://bit.ly/JohnGravesVoiceMirror (show Python using Windows Speech
Recognition to listen and repeat what is said)
I'm looking for the next step to bring in webcam video face detection
as demonstrated at Kiwi PyCon 2009 down in Christchurch earlier this
month:
http://nz.pycon.org/
http://www.slideshare.net/hardbyte/python-in-computer-vision (see
slide #68)
If these developments are of interest, or if you have words of wisdom/
useful links/contacts/etc., please contact me.
Cheers,
John Graves
