Haryana power demand reaches 14394 MW

Due to severe heat waves in the state and ongoing paddy transplantation, the power demand in Haryana has reached a new height of 14394 MW on Wednesday, as per Northern Regional Load Dispatch Cell (NRLDC). The power supply made by both utilities on Wednesday was 2934 Lakh units.

The maximum power demand in Haryana last year in 2023-24 was 13055 MW and 12,768 MW in 2022-23 . The state is expected to experience a peak energy demand of 14,287 MW in June, 14,262 MW in July, 13,811 in August and 13,548 MW in September, but it has already crossed the maximum limit in the start of paddy season coupled with heatwaves in this month.

The power shortage expected during paddy season is 3000 MW. Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has allowed power purchase for July, August and September 1640 MW,1590 MW and 1740 MW respectively to meet the power supply shortages. In view of the likely gap between demand and supply , the power shortage may persist in these months.

The domestic consumers are bearing the brunt of frequent power cuts and load shedding of different durations.
