Dear Reshma Ji,
Warm greetings on this Heat Action Day! 🌞
As extreme temperatures continue to intensify, heatwaves are emerging as a serious public health and education challenge, especially for children. In the Terai-Madhesh region, responses to this hazard are often shaped by past experiences and perceptions rather than structured disaster risk management frameworks. As a result, the education sector frequently bears the brunt of heat’s impacts without adequate preparedness and response systems.
Recognizing this linkage, Mercy Corps Nepal, through the Climate Resilience for Communities (CRC) program, conducted a study on the impacts of heatwaves and the coping strategies in public schools of Madhesh Province. The study identifies key vulnerability indicators of public schools and highlights the effects of heat on both the health and learning of school-going children.
We are pleased to officially launch our report today, in collaboration with the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance and featured on the Mercy Corps global platform. We request you to support wider circulation of this report.
