Hi Folks,

Please mark your calendars and RSVP to our second event of the academic year!

Episode 2 of Season 9 of the SF Math Teachers Circle takes place on
Saturday, 6 Dec 2025
at Proof School, 973 Mission St.,
from 10:30AM--1PM.

We bring back the popular mathematician and expert expositor and math "influencer" (over 100K followers on Quora) Alon Amit, who will reprise a session that he did five years ago. Alon was unsure if he should repeat a topic, but I said, "How many times have you seen Casablanca?"

Functions, graphs and iterations
We are so used to thinking about functions as their usual Cartesian graphs that we sometimes forget the two concepts are separate. We will review a different way to think about and visualize functions, one which is particularly suitable for functional iteration. This will let us take a peek into the rich world of dynamics of polynomials and rational functions, including the incredible theorem of Sharkovskii.

We will provide coffee, tea, pastries, and lunch.

Proof School is located on Mission Street between 5th and 6th.  There's cheap metered street parking across the street (only good for 2 hours, though; tied to your license plate) and more expensive parking at the Fifth and Mission garage at...guess!  And BART and buses are nearby.

All teachers at all levels are welcome.  Please share this invitation with others.  Our events are free (including lunch).

Please RSVP with this form by Wednesday 3 Dec 2025 (so that we can plan our lunch order).

We hope to see you soon!

And mark your calendars for our coming sessions (all on Saturdays 1030-1 at Proof School):

Jan 24 (Ted Alper)
Mar 14 (Paul Zeitz)
Apr 11 (TBA)
May 9 (Rebecca Garcia)

Hi Folks,

Since the California Math Council conference is taking place in Asilomar during the weekend of Dec 5, we moved our session a week later, to 12/13. We hope that more people will be able to attend now, and hope that it doesn't inconvenience too many people.  Sorry, but you will need to RSVP once again...so
