CMC North 2024 Request for Speakers

If you’ve already submitted a proposal to speak at the 2024 CMC-North conference this December, Thank You! If you haven’t yet, there’s still time to submit! Our theme this year is Framing Meaningful Mathematics, providing plenty of opportunities to connect what you’ve learned and are trying this year into a session proposal. We encourage previous speakers, new speakers, classroom teachers, coaches, and those supporting educators to submit a proposal by May 5th. For more information, click here.

This conference is a major event in California mathematics education each year. The conference will feature a full-day of sessions on Saturday, keynotes on Friday evening and Sunday morning, and six extended (3-hour) Pre-Conference sessions on Friday afternoon. In all, we are planning over 100 sessions attended by about 1000 teachers, administrators, teacher educators and teacher leaders.

The Saturday schedule includes four 60-minute blocks and two 80-minute blocks. Sessions will be held at the Asilomar Conference Center. We invite proposals for sessions to focus on the mathematics content and pedagogy for the presenter’s proposed levels. The title and description of your session should highlight the mathematics content and how to make it accessible for all learners. Program strands will include:

• The CA Framework • SMPs • Big Ideas • Inquiry and Problem Solving •Facilitate discussion and engagement
• Making sense of data • Promoting Agency and Identity • Mathematical Assessment

We are pleased to help offset speakers’ expenses as an expression of our appreciation for your time and effort in preparing and presenting a session. For each accepted session, the primary speaker is entitled to the following:

  • Conference will be free of charge (membership fees will still be required)
  • If you did one presentation as a primary speaker and are traveling within California you may claim up to $350($400 if you stay on-grounds housing at the Asilomar Conference) in total expenses.
  • If you did one presentation as a primary speaker and are traveling from outside California you may claim up to$425 ($475 if you stay on-grounds housing at the Asilomar Conference) in total expenses.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Nicole Sebek at northp...@cmc-math.org. We’re looking forward to seeing your proposals!
