Dear BATMath,

You are invited to today’s MTC meeting, facilitated by Zandra Vinegar.

Zandra studied Math and Math Education at MIT and served as the education coordinator for the National Museum of Mathematics in New York and BEAM (Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics). Currently the Math Curriculum Director and Head of Learning Systems at Brilliant.org, Zandra also leads local math circles and has appeared on the popular YouTube channel Numberphile.

In this session, we will dive headfirst into the key concepts of fractals, including symmetry, expressions of infinity, and chaos. Specifically, we will take an in-depth look at the Sierpinski Triangle and use log-log graphing to explore the difference between fractal (Hausdorff) dimension and topological dimension.

Note: If you have a laptop available, it may be useful for certain parts of the session, though it is entirely optional!

Event Details:
• When: Tuesday, May 12, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
• Where: Stanford University, Nora Suppes Hall, Room 103
• RSVP: https://form.jotform.com/261235743875969

Dinner will be available at 5:00 p.m., and the math session will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Parking Instructions:
Parking in lots A and C are free after 4 PM, they are in the vicinity of Nora Suppes Hall. There's a very small parking lot behind Nora Suppes Hall, a slightly larger lot very nearby, just across Panama Street, and a much larger lot just across Campus Drive.

There are two parking garages (Stock Farm Garage and Via Ortega Garage) just a bit farther away.
