call for latest publications: AILA network renewal application

Hello everyone,

 

The call for AILA network applications is now out (yes, it’s been three years already… ) and the deadline is October 13.

 

Cindy and I have met and decided to renew the network for another term. It may be a long shot given that usually AILA ReNs only tend to get a maximum of 6 years and we already have a 9year history. But due to the various collective projects in which we are now involved (e.g., the next PRISEAL conference in planning for 2026 - James Corcoran has been assiduously working on making it happen! with the moral support of the new PRISEAL steering committee - the PRISEAL Special Edited with WAC Clearinghouse that I co-edit with James and Bojana Petrić, a potential edited collection with Multilingual Matters in very early exploration stage by Cindy, based on a successful symposium in Kuala Lumpur that Cindy led last month), we thought we should re-apply for what may as well be a final term in the life of our network, and if our application gets through, definitely the last term with Cindy and I co-convening it. 😊

Hello everyone,

 

We have now submitted our AILA renewal application. In the online form, they asked twice how long we have been in existence, which was funny because we have already exceeded the maximum years by a term. So let’s see what happens with this application for a final term. we didn’t say it was for a final term 😊 but if it gets through, it’ll be, by all accounts. As we are investing in parallel in the PRISEAL conference network that may soon become our main community.

 

If the PubReN doesn’t get renewed (we find out by January at the latest), we’ll try and organise an online network meeting and decide what to do with this list and steps forward.

 

Thank you, thank you, for all your work as members of this network and if you sent us your publications, thank you for your direct support with our renewal application. We also did some separate searching. 😊 Of course, great thanks also to Theresa and Mary Jane for bringing the network into existence and carrying its flag for many years before we took over.

 

As we are in between terms now, we will be taking a convening break while, of course, still monitoring this list. So feel free to keep posting on it!

Dear Cat and Cindy

Thank you both for the work so far and keeping my fingers crossed  for the ReN renewal:)

It is great to know that one of the outcomes of this ReN may be a permanent network (PRISEAL) and I want to take this opportunity to say that two other networks (ELINET, ILCHE) are organizing their events in Brazil in 2024 and 2025 and it would be great to join forces with them since many of the research interests overlap and converge. I am presenting in the ELINET event in Pará https://elinet.org.uk/conferences/2nd-annual-elinet-conference-global-voices-local-impact-education-language-and-diversity

and have been asked by the organization to discuss possibilities of AILA collaborating with other organizations such as ELINET. Maybe we can think of possibilities also with PRISEAL for me to share during the ELINET event since we won't have word of the ReN renewal before Jan?

As soon as the ICLHE call for papers is out, I'll share it with you but we know the event will be in Porto Alegre, Brazil, between Sept. 24-27, 2025 so save the date.

Considering the long history, work and contributions of this ReN to the field, I would be more than happy to include a report of this ReN in the December issue of the newsletter. Thanks very much, Kyria, for your suggestions and conference info.

 

Speaking of which, I think PRISEAL will continue to be a conference-based network. we’ll let everyone know about the next venue for the conference after the PRISEAL steering committee meeting next month. James is coordinating this. Not sure about connecting with other networks and who would do that kind of work but we can talk about it for sure.

 

And yes, we can consider writing a little report on the PubReN for the December issue of the AILA newsletter if we get the invite to do it. I think we only got one in the past and the deadline was too tight.
