Subject: [EXT] Call for chapters - Handbook on digital writing technology

Dear colleagues,

We are currently editing a handbook on digital writing technology to be published by Springer. We have four topics left where authors are still missing:

  • Annotation environments (in various applications)
  • Note taking tools
  • Synchronous collaborative writing (e.g., Google Docs, Word 365, Etherpad, and similar).
  • Multimodal writing

We are an international group of editors (Chris Anson, Shibani Antonette, Kalliopi Benetos, Elena Cotos, Otto Kruse) and developed a fairly ambitious project to collect relevant technological innovations in writing which will then be evaluated with respect to their meaning for writing theory. This evaluation will take place at a conference in Switzerland in early December this year. Funding for traveling may be available. Articles have a fairly standardized format and a size of 5000 words. Participation in the group’s discussions and reviewing activities is necessary. Co-authored articles are welcome. Deadline for articles would be November, 2021, but may be negotiated.

As we are already behind schedule, we would need your ideas soon but no later than September 1st. Please send us a half-page abstract and some information on your expertise (teaching, publication, research) in the respective field. On request, you may receive more information on the project. Please inquire with or send your submission to
