(These are not "standards" or "rules to be obeyed".)
This is a non-proprietary group set up by Aiglon alumni, for the alumni to control and use. Thus, if you would like to (say):
(a) start a discussion on a subject likely to be of interest to your fellow alumni, or
(b) contribute to an existing discussion,
- then please feel free to do so.
You could also consider contributing as one of the group owners/managers/administrators of the group.
Posting and group etiquette - some basic rules
This is just a quick off-the-cuff list of etiquette/rules for us to
*try* and observe as we get this group started. It will probably be
changed and improved upon as we progress.
1. Your nickname in the group:We
are still playing around with the details here. A short name - e.g.,
"JohnS" looks like it would be best, because we have tried using full
names - e.g., John Smith - as nicknames, together with years and houses -
e.g., (64-67, Alpina, Clairmont), but this seems to overly clutter the
membership names list. Please note that using single quotes - e.g.,
'82-'85 - in a nickname causes exta html characters (garbage) to be
embedded in the nickname in some cases, so single quotes are best
avoided in nicknames.
The emphasis is on brevity. However, if you
could show your Aiglon years - e.g., IainB6467 - then it could be a help
and a courtesy to the rest of us so that, for example, people will be
able to more easily identify their fellow alumni from similar years.
(They can always go to the membership list if they would like to see
full names and email addresses.)
2. Do not spam:Any
post you make could be sent to - or read by - all/many members. Please
therefore do not post commercial sales pitches, and, before you make a
post, ask yourself whether the whole group really needs to read what you
are about to post, or whether it might be better to ask for or identify
those alumni (use the membership list) who would be interested in your
subject, and email them separately.
3. Suggestions for labelling of email out: (thanks to John Vornle for most of these suggestions)Note that each post, when emailed out to members, automatically carries this prefix in the email subject field:
{Aiglon College alumni group} - including the curly brackets. This is handy for mail filtering. You can add to this:
If
your post is for general information, or needs action or otherwise,
then please say so, using the suggested alternative extra subject
prefixes as below (or similar):
- General information: (for general information).
- Please read/action: - e.g., news about a new Alumni meeting somewhere.
- Please contact me immediately: - e.g., if you are (say) trying to establish who is in Villars and might want to go ski-ing with you next week.
For example, your subject might read something like "
General Information: Please note the newly-created page about J. Corlette".
Regards,
IainB (for group manager).
