Hello Steve,
In the interests of wider communication/collaboration with Aiglon alumni, I have posted this email to the Aiglon Alumni discussion group and added the names of the 3 people listed below to the discussion group membership, as they were involved in the Australian Aiglon reunion for the 55th anniversary of Aiglon, where I was the NZ "organiser" for this. They may be able to contribute to the effort.
  • "Robin Mycock"
    "Kate Clarkson"
    "Todd Benoliel"
Steve, thanks for your email (below). I do not recall (sorry if I missed/forgot it) your mentioning before that you had a plan to have a "JC gathering" in Australia in Jan 2013.
What a great idea!

A similar gathering in NZ, as you suggest, would be nice, but I'm not sure how much interest there would be.
I tried to get the NZ alumni together in 2003 using database contact details provided by Aiglon's alumni relations officer Rebecca Leam (see copy of database spreadsheet details here):
2003-09-04 NZ-based Aiglon alumni (per Aiglon database)
(click on link to view/download)

On about 2003-09-04, at the request of Rebecca Leam, I accepted the role of NZ Aiglon alumni "organiser", and I called or sent emails to the NZ-based alumni in the spreadsheet, forwarding the Ozzie reunion invite (55th Aiglon Anniversary).

The emails were CCd to
Kate Clarkson,  Robin Mycock, Todd Benoliel.
Though I managed to make contact with some of the spreadsheeted names (those that were not dead-end leads), nothing eventuated from this. (For example, please refer to the email thread with Robin Mycock copied below yours, in this email.)

The only "live" contacts (in total) that I ever had for any NZ-based Aiglon alumni are four in number:
  • Me - Iain Barraclough - email: Iain.Bar...@Gmail.com (current email address).
  • Charlotte Jensen - Married name Kemp, but has reverted to maiden name:
  • Claressinka Anderson-Guerard - She was ill/recovering from M.E. (Myalgic encephalomyelitis).
  • Nick Thomson - ni...@burrellthomson.co.nz.
I have had no luck meeting up with Nick (who lives in Auckland) in the 5 years I have been living here - he lives/lived near my 30klm "Round the Bays" cycling route and I could have dropped by, but, for an extended period, he was very tied up with selling his business. I was invited to his 60th birthday party at one point, but I couldn't go as I had come down with the flu.
Hardly a quorum!

Regards,

I've been building a site with a Saudi guy who hopes to use Deming to transform that country.  Any thoughts?   www.BuildtheFuture.net

Robin
Thankyou for your eMail.

Rebecca Leam and I have corresponded intermittently, and I think I offered to be a local rep. but there didn't seem to be much call for one (only about 8 exAiglon NZers, I gather), so I am not sure what extra purpose I can fulfil.  I attach the eMail thread below (after the copy of your eMail).

As regards the Oz Nov. meet, I won't be able to make that (again!) but will "pass it on".  I expect to be in Thailand at that time, but things may change.  Good luck for the event in any case.

Hope all is well with you.

Time: 3/06/2003 at 12:51p.m.Dear Iain,

G'day. Understand from Rebecca Leam that you have consented to act as Aiglon rep in NZ! Good on you, and hopefully this means that we will see you more frequently than we have in the past few years.

We are planning a Reunion in Sydney in mid Nov to coincide with World Cup Rugby (ouch, sorry about that...) and a visit by Norman Drummond, the Aiglon Chairman of the Board, and the likelihood of other Aiglon visitors at that time. Our intention is to book a boat on Sydney Harbour, we did this once before and it was a great success! Will confirm when  we actually have a booking (or alternative arrangement).

Cath and I were in Auckland for the Louis Vuitton Challenger Series in Nov, our nephew James Spithill was the helmsman for Oneworld. It was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed Auckland and environs. An Aiglon girl was on the Alinghi team, read that only recently.

I have asked Rebecca for an update on alumni records in Australia (and New Zealand). I will have a team of people helping me to update records of about 45 alumni here, and it would probably be worthwhile you doing the same if you haven't already done so. We would like to extend invites to the Reunion in Sydney to NZ alumni, it would be great to have some representatives join us. Reunions are always great fun, well worth the effort/expense.

Hoep to catch up soon.

Best regards,
Robin

Thankyou for your eMail, and for sending the DVD.

I very occasionally get to see the Ozzie Alumni, and the NZ ones never, so far!.

Iain.
