Dear All,

Today, 21 June 2011, marks the centenary of the birth of John Corlette, the Founder of Aiglon College.

The School will be celebrating its Founder’s 100th birthday with a series of events on campus this weekend. We are particularly honoured to welcome back the nephew of John Corlette, Michael Gervers ('60), Professor of Medieval History at the University of Toronto. Professor Gervers will deliver a special meditation in Exeter Hall on Saturday morning, 25 June 2011.

Whilst the celebrations will take place at the School, we hope that our global Aiglon family will join staff, students, local alumni, parents, former staff and special guests in celebrating this special occasion. Our guests include members of staff and former staff who knew John Corlette personally.

We are delighted to announce that the Meditation will be screened on the alumni website before the end of the month to enable everyone to share in this special moment in the School’s history.

Aiglon College is committed to the establishment of a School Archives and our Head Master, Mr Richard McDonald, would like to mark this milestone by launching an appeal to all alumni to contribute their recollections of John Corlette to the School as the first phase of this initiative. Alumni and members of the Aiglon family are invited to submit their contributions to me by 30 November. Our former members of staff attending this event will be invited to record their recollections of John Corlette on video after the Meditation.

We hope that you will share with us this opportunity to acquaint and re-acquaint yourselves with John Corlette's educational vision and to reflect on the School's distinguishing strengths and characteristics – and your special Aiglon experience.

With best wishes,

Rachel

Thank you Rachel for your kind efforts to put together an event as you mention in your newsletter.
I don't live in the past as much as I am blamed for it but AIGLON had been such a NORTHSTAR
for me that I owe my righteousness to the whole concept, always keeping my undescribable
honesty as my guiding light, never holding back my sharp tongue my sleeping well at night is the proof.
At Aiglon I had definitely learned that lying was a bad omen and that's why I preserve my communication
with my friends of all times and locations just as fresh as I first held; despite several unforunate differences
with a few friends I had never learned the concept of holding a grudge, hatred or an animosity towards any race creed or color.
Those are the foundations of my personality and I owe my very first lesson to Austin Elliott whom called me to
his office andslapped me in the face ONCE for being unruly RUDE (a first in the goody two shoes Aiglon history)
worse than any punch in my life and that was that, from then on I shone like a star because I learnednot no ever
get hit like that. ! I don't think AE ever repeated that again because AE and family  was an exaplanary
Housemaster, the best ever !
I hope my story was not too boring but like I had said AIGLON education was the best and I want everybody
in the world to know about it. I never married becuse I knew I could not provide for as good an education, for
my childeren I don't have, as I had received. Money can't buy righteousness..late Gordon Dyke had been my
mentor, may his soul rest in eternal peace  !
May your Aiglon experience be much more colorful than mine, but I doubt it.

My sincere best regards to you and your famoly.
