Riding the Dragon
Marking this year’s Dragon Boat Festival, international rowers have
come to Taiwan to compete again in various races held throughout the
country. Michella Jade Weng caught up with a team from Malaysia, who
seem to be very excited, both about the race and about going hiking
and cycling around Taiwan afterwards.
Plowing into the water to the beat of the drum, rowers give it their
all and put to the test what they've trained for over the last 12
months in the Dragon Boat race. This race takes place on 5th day of
the 5th month of the lunar calendar every year.
This is the Taipei Dragon Boat Festival, an international rowing
event. The Malaysian team took an easy first in this heat, and after
getting back to the dock, everyone steps off the boat happy,
congratulating and patting each other on the back.

Malaysian Team Captain
Malaysia. The last two years we were also in Taiwan (for dragon boat
racing). Taiwan gave us a really good
impression and we love Taiwan so much so we came back.
He said that after rowing in the race, the team's also going to go
hiking and cycling around Taiwan.
In addition to teams that have flown in from other countries, exchange
students and long-term foreign residents also participated in the
races. They say that it's fun, healthy and also culturally meaningful.
