As you may know, there was an unfortunate accident after IC in Kenya last August, which is in our mind and heart even today. In the accident, Irma Bejdic from Bosnia and Herzegovina, a member of their national team, lost her right hand. Her face was also seriously injured, which in the case of a young girl is perhaps even harder to overcome.
Irma's recovery has started, with several plastic surgeries and stabilizing her medical state. She's still in the hospital, but she already expressed her plans to go on an AIESEC Exchange or be an MC abroad once she is ready to fly again. She has incredible courage, and she gives us all a reason to believe in AIESEC.
A group of individuals believe this is a unique case of a unique person who we need to take care of, and this group've decided to do whatever we can to help her out.
Irma's family, her insurance, and her government have contributed 200.000 EUR so far for her treatment. However, she still needs 150.000 EUR, and her MC team have turned to the AIESEC network for help. Their argument is simple: AIESEC is our family, and it's Irma's family. It could have been any of us. Let's help one of our own. The pending treatment includes facial reconstruction and an artificial arm. Some of the surgeries cannot start until she has at least the half of this amount, which brings urgency to the fundraising effort.
AIESEC in Bosnia and Herzegovina's fundraising campaign has so far achieved 27,000 EUR, about 18% of the needed amount. We believe we're capable of a lot more.
