Subject: URGENT! Call for Applications - GYMAoC event in BAKU, the Republic of Azerbaijan

Dear Member Organization and Friends,

We have the pleasure to inform you that the first convention of the Global Youth Movement for the Alliance of Civilizations (GYMAOC) will take place on Aril 9 and 10, 2011 in Baku, Azerbaijan. This event is made possible thanks to the support of the government of Azerbaijan, and more particularly, its Ministry of Youth. Having this said we will highly appreciate your carefully reading the call for application below and nominate your candidates / sending your application forms for participation under the umbrella of Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYF-DC). Please take note that airfares will be covered by ICYF-DC and local hospitality including accommodation and meal will be provided by the hosting side.

You may recall that the overall goal of the GYMAOC is to highlight and recognize the strong message of peace and understanding set forth by youth in times where tensions and conflicts often threaten positive intercultural co-existence. More specifically, the GYMAOC has three objectives:

·         Mobilize and strengthen youth organizations in order to reinforce their commitment to the UNAOC objectives;

·         Highlight results of youth actions and support networking for the advancement of cross-cultural understanding; and

·         Support the mainstreaming of youth’s voice and participation in all sectors of the UNAOC.

More information about the GYMAOC can be found at www. unaocyouth.org/gym/

For the first time, representatives from youth organizations interested in joining the GYMAOC will meet to discuss and make decisions regarding this structure’s governance as well as its joint action plan for the coming year. A draft agenda for this convention is attached. Please note that this is only for information purposes: the final agenda will be communicated to confirmed participants.

The first convention of the GYMAOC will be held in conjunction with the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue (WFIC), an event also organized by the government of Azerbaijan in collaboration with a number of regional and international partners.  The WFIC will take place on April 7 and 8, 2011 and will address the conceptual, governance, policy and practical aspects of the challenge of intercultural dialogue. The WFIC will welcome the participation of leaders and public figures, heads of international organizations, heads of state or government, ministers of culture and cultural ambassadors, parliamentarians and diplomats, mayors and other local-authority figures, representatives of non-governmental organizations and enterprises, media, etc. All youth participating in the GYMAOC conference will be invited to take par in the WFIC.

A total of 150 youth representatives from all over the world will be invited to take part in the first convention of the GYMAOC and the WFIC.

Youth representatives interested in taking part in the first convention of the GYMAOC and the WFIC must respond to these eligibility criteria:

·         Be a member or representative of a youth-led organization (e.g. national youth council, student organization, youth NGO, etc.) mandated to make decisions regarding the organization’s involvement in the GYMAOC and its activities

·         Have good knowledge of cross-cultural understanding and UNAOC priorities

·         Have a good track record regarding youth work at the local, national or international levels

·         Be committed to taking an active role in the GYMAOC and its year-long working

·         Be between 19 and 35 years old

·         Be able to communicate effectively in English (oral and written form)

·         Have a current valid passport that will be valid for at least 6 months after the event (for visa issuance)

Gender and country balance need to be respected.

For selection processes, the attached application form needs to be completed. The application form is in RTF form and needs to stay in this format when sent back to ICYF-DC by Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the very latest. Applications reaching the ICYF-DC after this date will not be considered. Incomplete applications or applications not respecting word limits will not be considered. Applications need to be sent to s.isga...@icyf-dc.org . A receipt confirmation message will be sent within 24 hours.

Looking forward to receiving the applications of your nominees, please accept our fraternal regards.

Bests,

ICYF-DC Secretariat.
