Background to Positively Beautiful
Positively Beautiful is a feature documentary about life and love in the age of HIV. Set in South Africa, the film is about five friends who have been living with HIV for over a decade and whose lives challenge the stigma of HIV everyday. The film explores how we find hope in the face of tragedy and asks how we can change the harmful ways that societies respond to an incurable disease. Beyond the challenges, the film highlights a rare optimistic perspective of Africa and HIV as treatment and life choices allow thousands to survive and believe in a future.
The documentary is central to an extensive outreach campaign that will reach audiences at international film festivals, conferences, global screenings as well as universities, workplaces, hospitals, clinics and communities. The outreach campaign will use the documentary to challenge HIV/AIDS-related stigma and generate dialogue. We have already been invited to submit the film to the International Provincetown Film Festival in the US and have secured interest from universities, workplaces and NGO's to screen the film. The documentary combines captivating story telling and cinematography, with innovative marketing.
