Good day!
Mikaela, sorry to be missing you at AIDS2012, but congratulations on your big news!! I look forward to seeing many others at the tweetup on Sunday.
I wanted to share two events that might be of interest to this group:
- "Nothing about them, without them" - Journey of Life for Children Living with HIV
Carrying the youth momentum from Saturday forward, there is a session on Sunday morning at 9am on transitions in care for adolescents living with HIV. It will be co-led by youth panelists and HIV leaders from USAID, WHO, EGPAF, and others.
We will be tweeting from this session and supporting the youth leaders to post on FB & Twitter as well. To keep it simple, we'll be using #AIDS2012 & #youth for hashtags. More details at:

- The *final* World Bank - USAID - The Lancet HIV Debate!
The World Bank and USAID have, over the past two years, developed a forum to enable global thought leaders to debate major challenges in AIDS science, policy, and practice. To coincide with the 2012 International AIDS Conference, in collaboration with The Lancet, the World Bank and USAID will host the final debate on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 6:30pm. The debate satellite session will be an interactive viewing via web-streaming with a moderator at the IAC Venue, Mini Room 1. You can also join the live webcast online, which will be broadcast in French, Spanish, English, and Arabic.
The debaters will be tackling the following proposition:
“Continued AIDS investments by donors and governments is a sound investment, even in a resource-constrained environment”
(As this is very much an academic-style exercise, know that the arguments on either side may not reflect the debaters true beliefs.)
Debaters and speakers include:
Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President, World Bank – Opening Remarks
Dr. Rajiv Shah, Administrator, USAID – Opening Remarks
His Excellency Mr. Festus Mogae, President of Botswana (1998-2008), Chairperson of the
Champions for an AIDS-free Generation – Opening Remarks
Dr. Charles Holmes, Chief Medical Officer, Office of the US Global AIDS Coordinator – Debate
Introduction
Dr. Richard Horton, Editor, The Lancet – Moderator
Dr. Roger England, Chair, Health Systems Workshop – Debater
Dr. Mead Over, Senior Fellow, Center for Global Development – Debater
Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, Director, The Earth Institute, Columbia University – Debater
Mr. Michel Sidibé, Executive Director, UNAIDS – Debater
Dr. David Serwadda, Professor of Disease Control, Makerere University – Debate Summary
Ambassador Eric Goosby, Office of the US Global AIDS Coordinator, US Dept. of State – Closing Remarks
We will be tweeting on #AIDS2012 and #WBLive.
See you all in a few days!
