1) Ramdas Padhye Show in Bay Area : A Report
Our Ramdas Padhye Show at Bay Area on Saturday May 1st was a huge
success. We had good auditorium with good sound & light system & the
event was executed without a flaw or glitch.
Saturday's theater was a fairly closed room & quite a homely one.
The artists were therefore able to make a good eye-contact with the
audience. We primarily had families attending the events. We had
about 200 people attend the show excluding the AID volunteers.
The entire 1.5 hours was filled with laughter & children were
clutching on to their stomachs & a step short of rolling on the
floor. Because the children were very responsive the artists made
the show even more interactive. And because the artist was involving
the children, they would participate even more - sort of a ripple
effect.
During the intermission, we asked a small girl how she's enjoying
the show. Her answer was: ``his puppets are sooo naughty'' & she
started laughing, her face clearly written with happiness.
Since we had a show the next day too, there were kids who were
begging their parents to take them to the next days show as well.
All of us volunteers enjoyed the show too. So on the whole we were
happy. How he manages to make his puppets talk & make it appear
quite real was something we could'nt figure out.
We got a few emails where people thanked us for organizing a nice
event. People were on the whole happy. We received $1800 via the
Pledge Drive at the end of the day.
My suggestion to all the other chapters is to consider this
fundraiser proposal for maybe end of this year or next year &
implement it in many other chapters as well. The event's quality is
very good & the event is fairly novel & somewhat different from the
routine & worth executing at many more chapters. The event can be
enjoyed by families - both adults & kids.
Most event-related resources - web pages, event brochures, posters &
fliers, sponsorship documents, ticket templates etc are readily
available to 'cut-paste' for use at other chapters at anytime in
future.

c) Bhopal victims exercise ``sacred'' vote
The paltry sum of 10 rupees (22 US cents) a day that his wife,
Sabira, earns from running a small shop in their crumbling one-room
shack is hardly enough to feed them and their four adult children.
But at 62, Yaqub Khan is a fighter and it is this fighting spirit
that has inspired him to trudge the 500 metres from his home to cast
his vote in India's general elections.
