One of our most trusted partners in
public health,
Jan Swasthya Sahyog (JSS), is looking for a volunteer to
help them in documenting a new educational initiative in the the
Phulwari (rural creche) program. It is a unique opportunity to spend
time with a wonderful group and learn about grassroots health efforts,
and really make a valuable contribution! Please read the attached
proposal.
Briefly, creche program has been very
successful and has also significantly reduced the incidence of
malnutrition among children. Over the next few years, JSS is hoping to
incorporate Early Child Care and Education (ECCE) activities in these
creches that stimulate cognitive development, curiosity and learning
among children.
One of their primary goals is to introduce these
activities in the local language, and in a manner that celebrates the
local culture. They are currently investing their energies in developing
training modules for the creche coordinators and inducing them to incorporate these activities as part of
the daily routine. Attached is a ECCE manual prepared for the Phulwari worker. Please also find a short but absolutely adorable video of children engaging in a learning activity in one of the Phulwaris under ECCE.
JSS
is seeking out a volunteer who can visit for a few weeks and help JSS
in documenting local songs and games through text, audio and video by
traveling to different villages, and speaking to members of the local
community. The time of stay can be negotiated with JSS for those who are
interested, depending on constraints. Accommodation will be taken care
of by JSS, and all logistical support will be provided for locally by
the staff.
The attached documents describe more details
on the program and ECCE activities, which have been recently introduced. Please circulate this widely. If you are interested in volunteering for this opportunity, please send
a note to
karthik...@gmail.com.
We hope some of you or your trusted acquaintances will be interested in taking up this opportunity!
