BOKARO: One Namita Devi (25) was burnt
alive by her husband and in-laws and her body was tied to a tree in a
jungle at
Chagri village under Mahuataad police station in Bokaro district. Police
recovered the body after a few days and was handed to her parents. On
Monday,
her angry father along with hundreds of villagers took her body to her
in-laws'
house and buried it near the front doorstep.
The incident has sent
shock waves among the residents here. While Namita's body is still
buried in the
portico of her in-laws' house, police are trying to convince her parents
to
perform the last rites.
Namita's husband, Chandrika Mahto, and
father-in-law, Bhatu Mahto, a Coking Coal Limited employee along with
other
members of the family have been absconding after the incident.
Namita, a resident of Dudhmatia, was married to Chandrika about four
years back. She repeatedly complained to her parents that her husband
and
in-laws regularly tortured her for dowry, police said.
Mahuataad
police station OC Dinesh Kumar Prajapati said they were informed by
villagers
about the body of a woman tied to a tree in the jungle on February 28.
They
rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body in a decomposed state.
During
investigation police found that she was Chandrika's wife.
When
police went to Chandrika's house, they found the door locked. Policemen
broke
the door and went inside only to be greeted by the stench of burnt
flesh.
After post-mortem and registering the case, police handed the
Namita's body to her father of the deceased for the last rites.
"But
Nandlal instead of perfoming the last rites went to Chandrika's house
along with
other villagers and buried the body near the front door," Prajapati
said.
Bokaro SP Saket Singh said a case of dowry death has been registered
against Chandrika and his family members.
