I thought it worked well to go through exercises similar to the homework without doing the homework.

How did everyone else find it?

Everyone seems to be going pretty well. The homework for the second week has very few ambiguities. It is somewhat hard but it's a good sort of difficulty I think.

I will get something we can write on for next week.

Hi Tim,

I agree that the "similar to homework" exercises are very helpful.
Formulating parallel questions is itself a good way of testing our
understanding. The benefits of working as a group also seem clear:
over the weekend we did very well in ironing out each other's
confusions. I'm also getting the motivational boost I wanted from
group work.

Thanks again for making this stuff happen!

Thanks also to Shepherd for arranging our new venue. With a bit of
butcher's paper to communicate on, it will be near perfect (or at
least a fairly awesome local optimum).

Cheers,
James Ting-Edwards.

Hi Tim,

I completely agree that doing some exercises similar to homework helps a lot, not only in the sense of finishing assignments, but also gaining a deeper understanding of the knowledge as well.

Interestingly, as far as I'm concerned, homework 2 is only relevant to part 3 of the course. I just finished part 3 and found myself capable of doing homework 2.

Unfortunately, I was unable to book the project space for next Saturday Nov 5th because, according to the library staff, I can book as far as one week in advance. When I argued that I had booked it for this Saturday two weeks ago, she explained that the library staff who had done this for me did not follow the rules. I will try to book the project room for next Saturday when we meet this weekend, that is, 2pm Saturday.

Regards,
Lee Shepherd

Thanks Lee. Good feedback.

Librarians don't seem to be the most flexible people (I am married to one!).

As an alternative venue, it appears I am now able to provide access to the MGSE building on Queensberry St, and when I checked last time, there were classrooms left open with whiteboards. So we could probably use one of those. No provided technology (other than the uni wifi) though.

Richard,

Let's consider this option tomorrow. It's at 234 Queensberry St I believe near Leicester St North Melbourne.
