Greetings Members,
We have received nominations for next year's Chair and Treasurer. In
order to get to know the nominees a little better, each nominee
provided a short statement of their reasons for running. Please spend
a few minutes reading the nominees' statement. Tomorrow is our May
meeting at Ivar's on Lake Union. I think that the nominees will be at
the meeting, so, if you haven't had the pleasure of meeting Alessandra
and David, tomorrow would be a good opportunity to do so. The section
is very fortunate to have Alessandra and David. Following the
meeting, the voting will begin.
For Chair, the nominee is Alessandra R. Carreon.
I'd like to take this opportunity to express my interest and
qualifications for the position of AIChE's Puget Sound Section Chair.
I recently transferred from ENVIRON International Corporation's
Houston, Texas office to the Lynnwood office this past August (2008).
As a member of the South Texas Section (STS) in Houston, I served as
environmental workshop chair and organized the first-ever
environmental symposium and wastewater conference for the section. For
my volunteer efforts in Houston, I earned the 2007 STS Special Service
Award. With my transfer to the Seattle area, I also took the
initiative to establish a new young professionals' (YP) group with
fellow AIChE Puget Sound member David Wishnick. This YP group has
already hosted a number of independent events in Seattle as well as
fostered collaborations with other local engineering societies. We
have garnered abundant interest in our local section and have
established a vision for sustained membership retention over the next
year. Currently, I also serve as Vice Chair of the Sustainability
Section of National AIChE's Environmental Division. I am also chairing
a session for the AIChE National Annual Meeting this November (2009)
in Nashville. I believe that now is a great time to revitalize the
Puget Sound local AIChE section, and I possess the enthusiasm,
leadership experience and commitment to catalyze this process.
For Treasurer, the nominee is: David Wishnick
David is currently working for CESCO Solutions in a Technical Sales
and Marketing role in Seattle, WA and holds a BS in Chemical
Engineering from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Currently,
David is Chair of the Young Professionals Advisory Board and
completing his MBA from Seattle University while working. David is the
past House Chair of the local Chicago AIChE Section and Chair of Puget
Sound Minority Scholarship from 2005 to 2008.
