Kindly forward this mail to deptt google groups.

Hi all,

It is again registration time which brings along lots of queries and doubts. This year, on AIC's initiative we have tried to compile a set of FAQs for you all. The link of the FAQ page is:

https://km.iitd.ac.in/twiki/bin/view/General/Administrivia/AcademicFAQ

This is an internally accessible (IIT intranet) site.

In case of any doubts or ideas please feel free to reply or direct your queries at <AIC_...@googlegroups.com>.

EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE TRIED TO KEEP THE SET OF FAQS FREE FROM FACTUAL ERROR STILL A FEW ERRORS MIGHT HAVE CREPT IN.
SO PLEASE CONSULT YOUR COURSE ADVISOR OR UG SECTION ON CRITICAL CLAUSES. ALSO SUGGEST POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENTS AND ADDITIONS TO THE PAGE.

On behalf of AIC Team 2009-10,

Hey!
Have a look at answers of questions 2 and 3. Similar question, contrasting answers...

The questions are similar but not the same. BTP and Major Projects are different.

you mean ki BTP is done by B.Techs and major project by Duals...But, in courses of study the 'BTP' is referred as Major Project Part1(CSD411) and Major Prj Part2(CSD412)...'BTP' is mostly used by us...I am unable to find any course named BTP...

hi

nice work...

I have a doubt in question 4:
"In the 9th and 10th semesters, Integrated MTech and Dual Degree students will normally register for a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 22 credits per semester."

is this a rule or just an indication.... "normally" doesn't make things clear...

In Q10:

Can I do more than one HUL course and get them counted towards HU credits?

I feel there's a typo. I think you meant "in a semester"...

contradiction: q 13 n 14:
one says minimum credit requirement for mini-p is 80, other says 120.

in "degree requirements", 1st question: answer says "Environment Studies category under OC for graduation"
in "environment studies category", 2nd question: the answer says otherwise.
the first one is wrong, please change it...

In the question
Q. Is registration in an overlapping course as an alternative to a core course allowed?

Do the 'core courses' referred to here mean core for only your BTech/MTech/dual programme or does it include the core courses for the minor area programme as well?

Hi

One issue!

There are students in our department who have to do a core course in A slot and want to take up an HUL in B or M slot. But, on the academic website they can register for only one. If they register for HUL, they have to fill up all 8 choices, which by default are considered in A slot, due to which A slot gets blocked and they are not able to register for their core course.

One solution is that they register for only HUL for now, and if they get it in B/M slot, then next semester they register for their core. Is this advisable?

Also, if you could address this issue in the FAQs, it would be really nice, as I feel, students in other departments might also be having such problems (maybe not a core in A, but something else...)

If you do, they are counted as DEs (that too only if they are in the list of DEs).

Q. Are there any restrictions on the Audit facility?

Ans.
(a) B.Tech. (4-year) programme: A maximum of 8 credits from the elective courses in any category out of 180 credits required for B.Tech. degree may be completed on audit basis.
(b) Dual-degree programme: A maximum of 8 credits from the elective courses in any category may be completed on audit basis from the UG part of the programme.
(c) Integrated M.Tech. programme: A maximum of 8 credits from the elective courses in any category may be completed on audit basis.

please at least go through the text before posting a q.

I know all that...
Actually the guy's doubt is... what would happen if he did so...

Would he only get 5 credits and the 4 credit course would go waste
OR
He would get 8 credits and 1 credit would go waste (just like in DEs or HUs if u do extra credits they go to OC, would in this case a course be broken and 1 credit sent into the waste basket)...

Are the "Seminar courses" with structure (1-0-0) counted as Lecture courses? There is a confusion.
