The "flight mechanics of broomsticks" and other related phenomena will
be the subject of a discussion sponsored by Witch's Brew, in
conjunction
with Fermented Fluid Mechanics Forum (FFMF). Noted broom aerobatist
Hilda Brum will introduce the topic with a brief synopsis of the
history of brooms as flight vehicles.

To date, flying broomsticks are a poorly understood phenomenon,
and largely considered to be proprietary to a particular group of
practitioners. Perhaps the most controversial aspect is the mode
of propulsion, which so far appears to be a form of levitation.
Researchers, however, have been unable to duplicate this in their
laboratories. There are rumors of a covert full-scale experiment in
the San Francisco Bay area to measure the lift and drag characteristics
of a broom and its passenger/payload. The facility is only identified
by the codename "40x80".

Further controversy surrounds the use of morphing technology,
and its possible applications to improved lift. Morphing wing-body
combinations have been observed (although not in flight), and have
included a snout and four legs.

Witch's Brew (WB) has offered to supply FFMF with alternative
beverages, which WB members claim facilitate flight and morphing
phenomena. Voluteers are being recruited to take part in related
experiments after consuming the beverages. The discussion and
experiments are set for the evening of October 31.
