The message below came from Elise Engelhardt, of ASME and SVEC.
Demand for volunteer engineers to go into classrooms to speak for an
hour is very strong. The SVEC Discover "E" program is headed by AIAA
member David Levinson. A general description of the program can be
found at: http://www.svec.org/discover.html

I've taken the original message and list from Elise and posted it at:
http://aiaa-sf.googlegroups.com/web/DiscoverE-2007-schools.html
This has the detailed list of classes still looking for engineers.
Elise's original message (sans list) is below. If we receive an
updated list of school, I'll try to get the new info posted as well.

The Discover "E" (E for Engineering) Program in the Bay Area is
coordinated by the Silicon Valley Engineering Council (SVEC) and
engineers do about 300 presentations to K-12 students describing what
engineering is all about. Some of you have graciously volunteered in
the past for this program that is run during National Engineers Week.
However, the SVEC gets so many requests that it takes us about 2
months to honor all the requests from teachers and cannot accommodate
every one during E-Week alone. At this point we have 44 requests for
presentations on engineering and science careers to meet all the
teachers requests before the end of the school year. With your
willingness to take another class or sign up for your first class we
can meet all the teachers requests! I am appending a list below which
shows the schools and ages of the students the volunteers would be
presenting to, along with the teachers comments on what they are
looking for from their volunteer. The engineer works with the teacher
to schedule a time for the talk that is convenient to both. During E-
Week in Feb, a number of volunteers presented to classes and had a
wonderful time-- feedback from the students was also positive! Let's
fulfill all these requests.

If you are willing to talk to one or more of the classes listed about
engineering, please contact Lynn Guest and she will put you in direct
contact with the teacher. You can look over the attached list of
schools and let Lynn know the visit number of the class you would
prefer (1st and 2nd choice).

Lynn will verify that no one else has signed up for the classes then
send the details, teacher's name and contact information etc to the
volunteer. Classes will be handed out on First come First served
basis. Your help is greatly appreciated to get this listing down to
Zero. Please forward this list to any interested Engineers.
