Having recently been laid off, I am looking for an opportunity with a new architecture firm. I am not very picky when it comes to project type, as I am interested in exploring a wide variety of areas within the architectural field in order to get a feel for each one, and then decide what I might like to pursue further years down the road. I am just as enamored with the urban environment and how each piece is carefully put together to create a fabric as I am about a small isolated family retreat in the woods. I can gaze in wonder at a glazed skyscraper, and dream about building out my own van for trips. Every project and project type brings about new challenges, new experiences, and ultimately makes me a better designer.
In my professional experience I have worked on industrial parks, commercial offices, retail stores, restaurants and a private club expansion. These projects were of varying size, from a small TI permit set put together in a few weeks or less, up to a long-term timeline that included submitting for MUP, ECA Exemption, and full building permit packages. While the majority of projects I have worked on go through the jurisdiction of Seattle, I am familiar with submitting to other cities in the area, and researching the requirements needed for their respective permits. I have been a part of projects from design kickoff through construction documentation, including setting up skeleton sheet sets (and eventually fleshing them out with appropriate information), building digital models, assembling design packages for client review, and completing renderings for marketing materials. In addition to continuing these responsibilities I am looking for an opportunity to bolster my experience in the CA phase.
I am about 2/3 of the way through my AXP hours and have set a goal to finish my ARE’s before the end of 2017. Mentorship is an important part of an emerging professional’s career, and I would like to work for a company that can fully get behind my own professional goals in addition to pushing its own vision for success. I am a firm believer that your coworkers can also be your friends, and am looking for a place that values culture and camaraderie amongst its employees. Given the right environment and opportunities, I’m looking to stick around for the long haul.
I pride myself on being a hard worker who is thoughtful, inquisitive, positive, friendly and motivated. I seek out challenges and have no problem putting in the work in order to get the job done to the best of my ability. I am consistently looking for ways to improve my own efficiency and knowledge base, and often forward relevant articles, design inspiration and more to my coworkers.
In my spare time I am an avid athlete; engaging in hiking, backpacking, volleyball, snowboarding, lifting, and cycling. I make my own music, having self-taught myself guitar and drums, in addition to being formally taught trumpet (I no longer play). I love writing (yes, I’m that guy who owns a fancy fountain pen) and photography, and begun to document my trips and adventures out of the office through prints, calendars, photo books, and hopefully in the near future, short films (still building the home desktop editing station to make that a reality).
