Keeping this thread current. We're on for Sept 24 at NBBJ! Thanks to
Margaret Montgomery, our WMIG 2010 co-chair, for hosting and to AIA
Seattle for providing some starter funds for food and drink. We'll
have pizza, snacks, beer and soda.

The details:
AIA Seattle Committee on the Environment (COTE) invites you to our
monthly committee meeting on Thursday, September 24, from 5-7 p.m., at
NBBJ's roof deck in South Lake Union. Refreshments will be provided
to increase our collective brain power!

This meeting will focus on the committee’s commitment to create
another successful What Makes It GREEN? in 2010. Our hope is to
continue advancing the practice, knowledge sharing and celebration of
sustainable design in the greater Pacific Northwest/ Pacific Rim
region. As co-chairs for COTE, we are excited to have Jared Silliker
of Silliker + Partners, a dedicated committee member for the past few
years, and Margaret Montgomery, principal at NBBJ, to co-chair WMIG
2010. At this meeting we will share ideas to improve WMIG and set an
agenda through next April. We'll be looking for enthusiastic and
committed volunteers to help make WMIG 2010 a successful event!

NBBJ is located in the Alley 24 block, adjacent to REI in South Lake
Union - 223 Yale Ave. (Alley 24 parking garage closes at 8:30, so
street parking is best.) Please RSVP to jared.s...@gmail.com if
you plan on attending.

Thanks, all, for joining our kickoff meeting/social last week. We
scored a gorgeous day! Here are some quick highlights of our
discussion:

- Video identified as possible tool for submittals and/or jury
questions (fairness of firm resources may be an issue to consider)
- Teaching/education seen as a priority element ... a differentiator
of WMIG
- Discussing/sharing failures of projects should be encouraged
- Storytelling and design process should remain a important facets of
WMIG
- "interview your client" suggested as a part of submittal
- Up for debate: designs and/or operating projects ... separate
judging? category for previous WMIG entries?
- Theme brainstorm: "e4: education, earth, economy, ______" (building
on "planet, people, prosperity" from 2009)
- Connection to Living Future 2010 needs fast action
- How can we best contribute metrics to the industry at large?
(connections to DOE's HPBD? AIA National's 2030 Commitment?

Tentative sub-committees:
- Event/venue: Sonya Poland, Kerry Mason
- Criteria: Jesse Walton, Doug Smith, Brian Cloward, Lisa Rosenow,
David Mount, David Winans, Dave Rodgers
- Jury: Greg Hepp, Stephen Gibson, Kerry Mason, Jack McKean
- Promotion/graphics: none
- Regional connections (including Living Future): Lisa Rosenow, George
Schweikart, Dave Rodgers
- Documentation/legacy: Jack McKean, Sonya Poland, Jesse Walton

We'll be in touch on upcoming meetings soon. Please post additional
ideas in the meantime!

Thanks,
Jared
