Dear Ai4lam community members,

I’m looking for examples of RAG implementations in LAMs.  If you’re aware of a live system and any description of it (article, blog post, conference presentation, etc.), could you please let me know? I will populate and share a doc with any examples I find.

Thanks so much,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I have a small RAG application at https://library2.sdsu.edu/research-help/

It's a librarian subject expert finder. It first looks in a local database for simple keywords, like "Health" and uses a prompt to find the best match.

If It doesn't find a librarian in our local database (I test with "Myocardial Infarction") a prompt looks in a RAG knowledge base of our 30 librarians and makes a semantic connection.

This is using a locally hosted llama 3.1:70b model.

Hi Tom,

I’m not sure if this quite what you’re looking for, but over at the AIINFRA project (https://aiinfra.anu.edu.au/) James Smithies has led the building of a couple of prototype RAG chatbots for use with historical corpora — one is Cambridge University Library’s Darwin correspondence dataset, and the other uses Hansard records from Parliamentary libraries in Australia, the UK, and New Zealand.

All the best,
Glen

The call for references turned up 18 RAG or RAG-adjacent efforts in LAMs.

The polished list is available here:

Thank you to everyone  who made a suggestion, and special thanks to the team at the British Library for their excellent work capturing the Fantastic Futures 2025 conference content (from which many of the examples have been pulled).

Hi Tom,

We have Memory of Newspapers https://www.pametnovin.cz/ which is a prototype we plan to implement into Czech Digital Library (Kramerius system) this year.

See description on slides 16-22 from ILIDE conference here:

Best,

Petr
