Please excuse the cross-posting, but a) some of the projects funded are really interesting, and b) there's more funding to come! The current projects seem really firmly positioned at the intersection of interesting / hard problems that need expertise from the humanities and AI folk, as neither domain can address the identified issues on their own. It'd be great to see more international projects and more GLAM expertise / issues in the mix!

Cheers,
Mia

Subject: New Digital Humanities RFP from Schmidt Sciences

Here at Schmidt Sciences, we just released a new RFP called HAVI. Please help us spread the word!

Schmidt Sciences is requesting proposals to the Humanities and AI Virtual Institute (HAVI), aimed at fostering research in the digital humanities with a particular focus on artificial intelligence. Ideal projects will have co-PIs with expertises from both the humanities and AI and will address research questions from both domains. This request is open to universities and non-profits globally.

Funding ranges from US $100,000 to US $800,000. Applications are due March 13, 2026.

To get a sense for what kinds of projects we funded last year, we are also excited to announce 23 new HAVI projects (look under "Featured Projects"). The projects span disciplines such as archaeology, history, literature, linguistics, art history, music, law, and film/media studies. Together, they reflect HAVI’s dual mission to apply AI to the humanities in ways that open new understandings of human history and culture, and to advance AI itself using humanistic questions, methods, and sources.

Thank you,

Brett
